When I first registered on DigitalPoint, I was simply a novish. but now I can say that I know a little bit of SEO. Thanks to all the members.
And, as far as I realize, SEO is a hectic job and need some quality person to do this. a SEO Expert may charge more than 5K depending upon the job

Yes most of the big companies charge this but there are many good seo that charge less. Some seo jobs don’t require that much work.

During a meeting with a large web design company (who charge nearly 2000 pounds for seo) they revealed they had a girl who just joined the company doing the link building. I started talking about seo and she started writing down notes!

First where an SEO company shows up in the results may or may not be a part of what they set out to accomplish.

For myself if I ranked on the front pages of Google I would likely be inundated with inquiries and banter back and forth and probably end up spending more time with that than doing the actual SEO work needed.

I also learned over the last four years and as I did I found by raising my prices I began to work with more serious webmasters and companies. Their SEO knowledge was also better than the lower paying webmasters and so they understand issues surrounding time for instance or how artifical link building does more harm than good.

Pricing $500.00 may be a good price for a 10 page static site, but will not usually cover the work needed for 1,000 page dynamic website.

Next is keywords....If you want to be at the top for "buy viagra" then you need to realize the ROI from such achievement, and dig way down deep in your piggy bank.

If your goal is to be on top for "alpaca wool long blue overcoat" then the price should not require you to take out a loan

As for pricing there are a few different models

    1. Pay for work with bonuses for results.

    2. Snag a piece of the profits (partnership)

    3. Pay for performance.

Lastly one thing people need to realize about the SEO profession.

There are no guarantees in this field!

You are hiring a lawyer (SEO) to present your case (website) to the judge...(search engines)

No guarantees with your lawyer either

    some days you go free....

    Others it's life without parole...:D

Wrong. A real SEO is unaffordable to 99% of the people here. There are literally tens of thousands of wannabes who will happily offer you their limited abilities for a wide range of prices. I can find dozens of them posting here daily.

As I said in my first post, a real SEO is hundreds of dollars per hour IF you can even find one that will help you. The only chance you have of getting them is if your business is something they have absolutely zero interest in promoting one day or can't effectively promote. If there is an affiliate program for it you won't find a real SEO to build your site for any price. They are all rich and have no reason to compete with themselves.

That all sounds so poetic but you are missing the key ingredient. If you are one of the best or even just great at SEO your time is worth well over what someone will pay to rank for "alpaca wool long blue overcoat". Regardless of how easy it is nobody that ends up making $1000 for each hour they work for themselves is going to spend an hour on a customers site for $100.

I doubt I am missing any points.....

In fact I am trying to determine where you qualify to post about SEO in the first place??

PS You might want to post a little less as your server is down....:D

If you are asking if I am an SEO expert, nope and will never be since I cannot stand the entire process. I have however been a webmaster for years which has allowed me to network with people who are. Not one person that I would consider an expert "7 figures per year or more in earnings from SEO" would give you the time of day for under $500 to $1000 per hour. This is just for consultation with you doing all of the work and they are picky about who they will consult in the first place. Most of them won't help anyone at any price as it is far more valuable for them to either do the work themselves or put someone from their staff on it and keep all the money forever. It's really not a complicated concept at all.

If you were good at SEO you would stick a site up for yourself and make thousands per month, quit your job, and then make some more. My kid sister got a PR4 talking about her trips to the mall but nobody will hire her for SEO work.

    its all about perceived value

I had someone contact me one time, who was paying 5k a month to big seo company that did nothing

I offered to get him the rankings for half that , he declined

Becuase I am nobody, no sales skills, totally unprofessional

He was happy to sign up with the company for 5k, because they had offices, proposals, receptionists etc they were polished

That's the problem many self employed SEO's have when starting off. One thing I noticed people love, reports.

if you can prove to a client what there value for money is, then that certainly helps turn a few ears

I dont offer SEO services but my prices per hour for any kind of job
are at least what I can make by myself.
If I can make $300/h by myself I don't see any reason I'd waste an hour for less even if its a simple thing.

Most of these are just old sites. They are not the best SEO's. Read some of the sites and look at the services and you will see what I mean.

I don't see any of the big names, or even any of the competent guys that I know of coming up under "Search Engine Optimisation" when queried, apart from Bruce Clay,

I don't see Aaron Wall, Phil Craven, Danny Sullivan, Brett Tabke, Patrick Gavin, Chris Boggs, Andy Beal or Eric Ward ranking. I'd certainly trust those guys a lot more than some of the names coming up in the search.

Better SEO consultants simply don't bother to optimise for terms like that, it's just not worth the time and the money. Most clients come from referrals. If anything I'd wonder why those guys are trying so hard to get ranked for those search terms - It makes me wonder why they're not working off referrals.

Can you imagine how many enquiries you would be dealing with if you ranked for SEO? Hundreds of people wanting to get good rankings for $100. No thanks. :)

I personally have pre-made plans that I offer to my clients with the allocated hours for each of them very well delimited. If a client wants more, I charge per hour.
