What's the best way to do get traffic o E commerce based website?

    What's the best way to online market an e-commerce based website? I would love to know some method where we don't have to put in any money for Advertising. How can we get traffic on our website?

    Honestly, the best idea IS to put money into advertising. At least at first. After you get a e-commerce website set up, you can get sales virtually on the first day if you set up an adwords campaign. Set a daily budget for a month or so and see how your profit margin is (profits - adwords expenses).

    Alternatively, you can advertise through social media, which I have started to do with mixed results.

    I'm sure there are ways to getting traffic to your site without paying for it, but it will require some thought and some work. For instance, you could approach other webmasters who serve your target audience (but who don't offer a product that is in direct competition with what you offer) and work up some sort of deal where they send you traffic. I can't say what type of deal, but just think of how some offline businesses do this all the time.

    Think of the auto repair industry. Have you ever gone into an auto repair shop looking to get some work done on your car only to have them refer to you some one else? For example, an auto repair business specializing in transmissions cannot service someone looking to get a paint job and vice versa so they work with other similar businesses to drive traffic to their businesses. The body shop will refer people looking for tranmission work to the transmission shop and the transmission shop will refer people looking for body work to the body repair shop.

    So find other businesses who come into contact with your customer and ask them to refer them over to you and you will do the same for them.

    This is a very good example of Affiliate Marketing is very integral part of advertising. But they do ask for a certain amount of Commission. So money is involved, What I am asking is that what are the ways to do it without even spending a penny. Like we can do a very good social media to get clients on board. That's what everyone does. Hope to find some creative ideas.

    the fast way: Advertising. Use services like Google Adwords, Facebook ads, etc.
    the long-term way: SEO. Make your website reach the top of search engine's results on your specified keywords to get huge traffic from Google, yahoo and bing

    In my opinion all the marketing techniques will involve some kind of effort or investment.

    Digital marketing methods such as search engine marketing, PPC campaigns, social media engagement, email/ video/ mobile/ marketing will improve the visibility of your services.

    I'm not very experienced in ecommerce, but from what I learned, paid advertising is the best. You don't have to pay too much, but you do need to think a lot about it, so that you get the best option.

    I would say since it's a business site. Try some Google Ads or Facebook Ads that can target your audience and also your niche of what you trying to sell.

    The best option is to invest in google advertising. You can also attract traffic by affiliate marketing. Giving discounts and coupons will really attract a huge amount. This can be done through email marketing if you have lead details.

    Use proxy traffic to get more people to your site. Proxy traffic is really really cheap and you can get 15 - 20 thousands visitors for $20. These are real people visiting your site and it can help boost your search engine rankings fast. I use AdF.ly for my proxy traffic and I love it. I paid $6 and got 15 thousand visitors to my site in less than a week.

    First you need to know who you are targeting with your site so you can concentrate on tracking down that perfect customer. Once you know who you are (what the site is about) and where you want to go (how the site will progress) you can then focus on a marketing plan, be that free, or paid advertising. For instance, most of us have a link in our signature on this forum that points to a site. Can you guess why that is, it is free advertising, free in the sense that I did not pay to join this forum but not free in the sense that I spend time helping answer others questions.
