I bet it rhymes with I'm not holding my breath. Considering the refutation of choice for the past several months has been denial I have no expectations for the quality of work.
Hi Kalvin, I was checking your links out, but was distracted by your poems You are an extremely talented poet, I really enjoyed them. Oh well, on to read the "Fundamental Fundamentalism"
Actually even the first page of this series is already replete with errors. Apparently it is "okay" for the Biblical prophets to "conduct wars" since they are prophets and "are on a different level" (duh!) but the same cannot be said for the Prophet Muhammad (which, by the way, I need to point out that Muslims regard him as a...Prophet!). Sounds like double-standards to me. One rule for you and one rule for us, eh?
If Muhammed was a real prophet led by God then his wars were okay. The point, if you had read it, was that it is not necessary according to the Koran to be a prophet to lead a war. And also Muhammed personally killed people. The prophets of the OT rarely if ever lifted a finger to kill people. That was the point of mentioning Jericho where all they did was march around the city. All Gideon did was make a rukus and the enemy killed themselves. It was clearly God who slaughtered the enemies of His people. With Islam, it was clearly Muhammed. That's the big difference.
You are qouting me so I wasn't sure if you were speaking to me or Kalvin. Kalvin has poetry on his site that is unrelated to Islam or the article that I was complimenting him on.
I think at the bottom of these discussions, they are sometimes driven by the fear of radical Islam with the violence that exists. I uncovered this article and was wondering what all your thoughts were on it... "It is important to know what arguments the militants use to justify their deeds and to see whether these arguments have any basis in the Qur'an and the Sunnah. This dissertation discusses some pertinent issues in this regard, including incendiary questions as the following: Does Islam give an individual or a group the right to use violence to end wrong? What arguments do the militant Islamists have to justify their acts of terrorism and violence? Is the government of Pakistan un-Islamic? When is an individual or a group allowed by Islam to rebel against the State? What are the punishments in Islam for those who rebel against the State or cause disruption in society? What exactly is the meaning of Jihad and who has the right to wage it? Is 'turning the other cheek' a Christian belief only? What are the rules for a preacher in Islam? What is the actual responsibility of religious leaders? Does an individual or a group have the right to declare a Muslim a Kafir? What are the rights of the non-Muslim citizens of an Islamic State? Who has the authority to punish a person or a group for blasphemy? What steps does the government need to take to end violence and terrorism now rampant in our society in the name of religion?" Thanks! It's been a long time since I've written anything. I used to take a lot of philosophy and writing courses.
You are really good. I used to write alot of poetry, I had so much fun with it...we would meet at coffee shops and recite and crtique each others work. That "work" thing got in the way though. Reading your poems made me want to start again, you have a lot of energy in your words.
I am working on a site right now at http://nastybastard.info I hope you don't mind, but I put a link to your poetry on there. Don't worry, I did point out that you are not a nasty bastard. Geez, I don't know why no one wants to be on my site I have had the domain for awhile and was wondering what to do with it. So I decided to list a new nasty bastard every week. I think Hitler is going up next week. As I just started it today, I only have Saddam so far. But it should be cool once I get a bunch of bad people featured...
I have no doubt that with little effort that site will become popular just because of the domain name. Thanks for the link!
Your welcome I just realized you never did get any answers to your questions in this thread. I guess the big answer is still in the works
