Faking Alexa rank?

Ok, I believe in alexa ranking. Most people don't believe. But I was quiet surprised on if the alexa rank can be faked?? I was just browsing and found a website:

http://www.gaule.org/

well see the alexa rank, it says 34k.

But click on the description, it say the alexa of another website: tuxfamily.org
And just got surprised. Can anyone explain this?

Search for 301 redirect. It would be hard for them to fix the issue because it would punish websites that use it for its intended purpose.

I know the faking of PR with 301 redirect, but alexa ranking faking its first time for me.

The site seems to be: http://liness.org/ way long ago. and now been a wordpress site. I don't think the domain got alexa by just 301 redirect. There are thousands of websites that are being redirected to google.com, and we may have seen lots of PR 10 websites(a fake one) but we don't find the alexa to be faked.

If I were gaule.org, I would surely try make some good Alexa rank around 1k

ohh, so w/ 301 redirect you can deceive Alexa ... I haven't heard this until now.

Like everything there's a way around it...
301 redirect will by pass both, alexa and google's page rank. Just make sure if you're buying a website to do your research and don't let the "rush" blind you.

PS. Those of you considering (I am sure some of you are) don't fake it. It ultimately is a waste. Put the time into something legitimate.

 

may be this is about some error in alexa script?

no one really goes to the site but all the ads are routed thru the site

You need to know that all the sub-domains are counted as a part of root domain. So, mail.google.com also achieves Alexa 1 as google.com also does that. So, its not like that as you have stated.

Alexa is a subscriber of Amazon.com Fake Alexa ranking is also new for me.while It's method of ranking is totally based upon level of traffic where a website receives from people with Alexa toolbar installed.

Fake Alexa = Fake Proxy Hits

 

301 redirection is a biggest cause for this.

I was going to say the same thing, and all focus on the same thing.. 301 redirection doesn't matter to Alexa..301 redirection doesn't pass its alexa.

 

I was amazed too at the beginning and i still wonder the what is the point behind the following reason.
