I am still trying to see where slava made the other advertisers bid higher he must be like a superhero who can make others do his will!!!!!!
Sometimes the campaign is managed by someone inexperienced and they don't update the bids, or the budget just doewsent permit for increasing CPC, in this case it doesent work, other times the advertisers raise bids to get better positions and more traffic.
That policy is doomed to failure, but I like the idea of creating a site tahts extremely niche and with extremely low competition. These are hard to find, but will no doubt be profitable if you do manage to hit on them.
The acceptability of behavior in business is determined by many factors including each individual's personal moral principles and values. Regarless of its lawfulness, I believe that market manipulation of any kind is unethical and disgraceful. Businesses and individuals should not abuse the free market system for money. No offense to you, slava.
Guys this thread was not started to discuss the moral and ethical aspects of what I am doing, it was opened to discuss the strategic aspects of what I am doing. If you have any questions pertaining to the actual marketing strategy then please post here, everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it should be expressed in the propper place, this is not it. If you feel that you need to express your opinion at this forum, please open a seperate thread to do so. Thanks you.
i still think its clever, it very rare to get favours from advertisers or the net or google why not do somthing that works i use ppc, but monitor it constantly and it would stand out imo if someone was influencing the price, plus il only pay enough to make sure i make approx 80 percent prof on what i pay... they should see trends if they know ppc enough, and lets face multimillion dollar corps don't care, they stick 10 usd as top bid etc, good idea slava innovative m8y
If this were the stock market, it would be called a pump and dump. But it isn't. It might be unethical, but I don't think it's illegal. But maybe it should be. It is in a way a minor form a schill bidding. My dad, whenever he'd buy a used car would offer a pretty insulting price. Then he'd have a friedn go over and offer half of what he offered. Then he'd call the guy back and see if he'd take the offer. Since value is in the eye of the beholder, you're asserting "what the market will bear." Certainly there has to be something about this in game theory. In effect, you're "gaming the outcome" of the bid. If you had bid $2/click and they didn't bite, then the keyword is not worth what you say it is. But posting an ad without the intention of really using it is in effect probably some sort of fraud. And I'm not being judgemental - just offering my opinion. Heck, you should keep doing it till it's illegal.
Chess is a game of strategy. Football is strategy and art at times. Marketing is strategy and creativity. I've seen advertisers use scare bids to ward off others from advertising in top positions...Do I hang them for their ethics?? or make them pay for their ignorance by knowing those same scare tactics meant they were not paying attention to their campaign? I chose the latter of the two... and bled them very nicely for several months till they caught on one can sit and debate ethics and watch from the sidelines... as others find new innovative ways to make money, earn revenues, maximize ROI... Which one do you want to be?
I wanna be the guy that has millions and can afford to take a month long vacation to the bahammas where I can think over the ethics of my own actions
Yes, you and I are in the same boat. Making money on the internet is not about copying someone else's success, rather to figure it out on your own. Yes, at times it's possible to discover something someone is doing and try to replicate it. But as Sem-Advance said, "one can sit and debate ethics and watch from the sidelines... as others find new innovative ways to make money, earn revenues, maximize ROI..." I was able to make a lot of money the using the same philosophy.
Ethical or not ethical? Very simple answer: If you do something that you do not want to happen to you, it is not ethical. But anyhow: Thank you for telling us.
I wouldent care if somebody did this to me, in fact I would actually like it because then I could get more targeted traffic.
You can justify it all you like. The fact is that you are artificially manipulating/inflating your own market. Shilling at its best. Vito
If you cannot understand that artificially inflating your own market for personal gain is highly inappropriate, then there is clearly nothing to discuss with you. Vito
