exactly, plus 9.5/10 of all internet users have broadband anyway

But I'd love to get to the bottom of why Adam says one thing, and adam another...

Google is playing two people. It is trying to pretend one thing yet it knows another so at sometime both are coming out. Googledid this with the .edu/gov links. They said they were better and then Matt Cutts says they hold no more value than a .com. Any true seo knows Matt Cutts wasn't telling the truth.

I can't prove that loading time makes a big difference however I do believe that identical sites(as far as factors are concerned) the faster loading site will rank higher IMHO. I haven't done to much testing because all my sites are small and use very little flash or heavy files.

I believe that CSS and JavaScript should be externally sourced to help improve page load time and improve spider crawlability but thats the best effort I do. that rings a bell regarding the .gov domains but I don't remember it :(

This may be Adam's point. He preached that you should design your site for the best visitors experience. Theoretically the two should go hand in hand (SEO and user experience). And I think that is what Google is trying accomplish.

I probably won't get a straight answer tonight at the dinner event, but I'll throw the question out there any way.

So...does this mean we should also be careful and not just trust anything these google employees say? I've been thinking about this for quite some time. Are they trying to trick SEO people too? Just curious

all you need to understand is that the source of the information is heavily biased. I think they provide some good info but i wouldn't take it all as gospel.

Well I never got to talk with Adam at the Google dinner party. I don't think he was present. So no answer yet on this question. I'll try again today.

Meanwhile I've added my day two recap to my blog...

    cheers!

I think Sockmonkey misunderstood. Page loading can affect crawl rates and determine whether all of your site is crawled but it has zero effect on what the ranking of a page will be once it's crawled.

Also, as more user data is used to factor rankings, if people leave your site because of slow loading pages it could be a sign to Google that your site kinda sucks and that may in turn decrease rankings.

No some of what they say is true however it is ALWAYS in the best interest of the consumer not the webmaster which is good - I guess.

Compare what google says to seobook and seomoz. Two of the most trusted seo sites. I would trust Aaron Wall-seobook over anything google says. Aaron is unbiased. He has nothing to gain either way. Also see if their right by testing theories.
