I use software with firefox that allows me to see the back links that a site has. Some of the top sites in the searches I have checked don't have that many back links. Does that mean that either the other sites for that keyword have less back links or maybe the software I am using is not very good. One of the searches I did was a popular search term and one of the sites on the first page only had about 100 back links and they were mostly from blogs comments. I am learning this stuff so any info would help Thanks
If the backlinks are being retrieved using the link: command, then you won't see many. Google only shows a small selection. You're better of checking a site in Open Site Explorer. However, if the site is a trusted one then it will need little to no backlinks to rank high for some keywords. It also depends on what you define as "popular".
For sites that aren't your own? Not really. They have their own crawl infrastructure (as does Majestic SEO and others), which costs money so that's why the most data is available paid. However, while you won't see all backlinks, OSE still tells you how many it knows about and shows a decent selection. Why do you need to see every link of the competition?
In seo keyword ranking checker queries the major search engines with your targeted keywords and shows the first occurance of your page if this is within the first 100 results.
You can get market samurai trails for 12 days. You can check your competitors from there. It doesn't show exact number of backlinks but shows its anchor texts, link profiles and average link divesity.Good luck
Kindly tell me that software where abouts , i would like to use it. I have heard about it for the very first time. I know the tools thru which i can check the backlinks to my site but surprised that one can also check the backlinks for others website too. Please tell me some about it. Waiting.
Sometimes less backlink site rank high in search engine result pages because of site content, architecture and quality of backlinks & frequent visitors. Dig backlink is a good online tool to analyze backlinks of a site and its free of cost.
As was mentioned you will not find any free tool that will show all backlinks. Even when you own the website and have it added to Google Webmasters you will still never see all of your backlinks. If you are using this as a means to decide which keywords you could rank for easily then you are only looking at a small piece of the puzzle. Backlinks are not always a reliable indicator of why a site ranks highly as many sites with thousands of poor backlinks will never rank well and many higher authority well established sites will rank easily with very few backlinks. If you are wanting to know this info as a means to try and get backlinks at the same spot I personally find that to be a waste of time. Learn to build a proper backlink network and do your own thing rather than copying someone's backlink profile and you will do just fine without ever having to waste time on such things for medium to low ease of ranking keywords.
