How long before you try a different strategy?

Hey folks I just wanted to get some feedback on how long you work on a particular IM strategy before you decide that it's not working and decide to try something else. Do you give it say 3 months or so? Thanks for the answers.

It depends what measurements are available, and whether there are any upwards trends in those trends, and whether there is any room to tweak the strategy - just dropping something you are starting to specialize in because you haven't got the recipe just right yet, isn't always a wise move. But then neither is flogging a dead horse.

The more traffic you have the quicker you'll be able to tell what works. My site gets 70-90 UV's a day. I typically give my changes a 7-10 day trial before trashing them.

I try to give it at least a month but there are so many variables in this game that it gets confusing. Some people can jump right in and start making money off the bat, but for others it takes a lot of trial and error.

I won't let it happen more than 3 months . Maximum 2 months will be more than enough .
Most of the IM strategies, you able to track how effective it is .
If it growing slow or even not working. I will definitely stop it within a week to reduce to cost and waste of time and come with a contingency plan to replace it.

    Hi,

Well, personally I like instant results. if it doesn't work immediately then I wouldn't do it again.
    Usually maximum 1 - 2 days for me :)

But it all depends on the strategy. for example SEO should take weeks and months. While PPC shouldn't take more than few hours/days.

1 - 2 days would be ideal to see what works now that you mentioned it. I've gone as long as 3 months with trying to do seo and all that stuff. I think ppc may be my new focus. My only problem I guess is that I mainly promote clickbank products and Adwords doesn't like that too much:D.

Adwords never worked for me. and honestly I think it's not worth it. I mean, Google just hates people when they try to make money from their traffic. even if they're paying for that traffic. doesn't make any sense. I understand that they want to provide "high quality" content for their users ... but, I think that "sponsored ads" or "adwords ads" signs can give a clear "hint" for users that "when you click on that link..expect to pay something!!" :) I can't believe that Google actually demands that you build a whole website that would take weeks to create just to allow you to pay for advertising. it's called "paid advertising" for a good reason. but for Google it doesn't matter if you're trying to rank in their free search results or paying for traffic. and if you get banned once, you're banned for life. it's like you're out for Google's heaven ! and you can't even know the reason for that!! totally nuts :)

I suggest that you use Yahoo/MSN or even 7search. the internet is full of huge traffic sources. the trick here is to master testing and tracking before you go for any kind of paid traffic or you would be gambling with your money. even with free marketing, testing and tracking is extremely important. if you want to have results that you can repeat anytime you like for anything you like.

I've had the same feeling about Adwords for awhile now and never understood why I have to create a site in order to PAY them to advertise lol. Thanks for the tips on the other ppc networks. It's time to leave Google behind I guess. They're straight corporate now. Cheers.

It really depends on the project for me. Some project I know will take a week before I start seeing some revenue and other will take months. I dont really have a set time but I start moving on when I feel like I've done everything I can do and nothing is working or I've done enough to the point where there is no more room for additional growth.
