Hi, without a plug-in...Where do i add the Adsense codes to a wordpress blog? do i put it under the "links" section or do I just post it at the end of every blog post? Thanks!

I had trouble adding AdSense adds to my blog posts so I downloaded the plug in to make it work. I never could get the code to work properly in my links section either, but you could possibly add it to the header and footer sections of your blog without a plug in.

Edit the template files.( Admin--->Presentation--->Theme Editor)
If you want to insert the ads into the sidebar, edit "sidebar.php",if you want to insert the ads into posts, edit "single post.php"..

To put it on the right side find the template you are using and stick the code in under "links". wp-content>themes>classic>sidebar.php, or using the same structure you can put it in the header, footer, etc. The thing to remember is to edit inside the "themes" folder of the "theme" that you chose.

Thanks Richie, you seem extremely knowledgeable! a couple questions, if I edit the "single post" function, will the adsense code appear in every new post. Is this allowed? I think the Google Adsense TOS only allows a certain number of ads per pages...but each blog post does create a "new" page, but they would add up on the homepage until they get archived? is this allowed?
    thanks again!!

No Problem, the string is you're allowed to put 3 ad blocks in a single page, you just want to add the max. of 3 ad codes in the theme .php file and its fine.. wordpress is not like a website to put ad blocks on every page, it will automatically displays on every pages... that is another reason why blogs are so good!!

I stand corrected! This is what I love about DP: a question is asked, several answers are given, and we all benefit from it. For the life of me, I could not figure out Word Press' instructions and thought that the plug-in was the only way to go. Now I know better!

I am testing a plugin for wordpress called adsense injection. It automatically inserts adsense ads that is integrated into your posts. you can customize the type of ad, the color and the alignment...you can choose which pages the ads appear on...you can even randomize the placement...all you need to enter is your adsense publisher ID and channel ID.

you can download it here Adsense Injection

I'm testing it on my blog.

I don't suggest putting one in the footer, for the simple fact that it's rare people will see it, much less click it.
Can't really go wrong with header, sidebar, and somewhere in the content.

the header and sidebar is good. But how do i put it into the content without it showing up in every post. Because my main page contains about 20 posts before its archived, therefore if its in every post i will get in trouble with google...any suggestions?

I feel sorry for the delay :)
Just insert the ads into the "single post.php",no worries about Google. It will show 3 ads on the page automatically (the other ones won't display);)

first of all, this should be posted in Placement/Reviews Section.
anyway, normally a 728x90 ad just under header and a 160x600 wide sky on let bar fatches most of the clicks.

You can insert the code directly into the theme php but you need to be EXTREMELY CAREFUL that your codes aren't being repeated on the front page (i.e. if you have 10 posts your code will repeat 10 times). Yes, only 3 will show up (the limit), but you still have 10 instances of the code on that one page (once for every post), and that is a violation. (I have already asked, and they have confirmed this.) My advice is to either use the Adsense plug-in (use Mighty Adsense), or you better know what you are doing and not put the code in a loop.

As there will be only 3 ads showed up,I don't think it's against the TOS.
BTW,I sent you a mail to google and they told me it was okay

You sent me a mail to google? I don't understand. If you mean you asked Google this, copy/paste what you wrote to them, exactly, here. Because I asked them SPECIFICALLY about codes getting caught up in loops, and they have told me it wasn't allowed and is a clear violation of their 3-ad limit.

But in any case, people need to watch out what they tell noobs on this forum. I see a lot of, "yeah, that's okay," and "yeah, that's looks fine to me" comments from noobs asking if they can do this or that with Adsense, and a lot of the times these comments are wrong.
