Also remember Minstrel that these sites do nothing for you so staying away from them is the best idea. Don't take chances. It only takes one link to have a very negative effect on your whole google rankings.

I doubt that a single link can have either a significant positive effect or a significant negative effect.

If your the one linking to it that it can. I have seen many sites like this. Believe me there are thousands of sites that are deaply penalized yet have a PR and are indexed in Google. Google won't penalize a site that is unaware however a site that is grey-barred and you link to it will get you in trouble. But one link can cause alot of harm. I tested it on a site and nearly destroyed it(was a good site until I linked to that ONE site)

"Grey-barred" is a tad 2004. That was back when Toolbar PR actually had some relevance or meaning.

If you say so, visio. I think you're missing the point of that article (and most of what has changed in Google in the past year or two, for that matter).

Yes! i believe google has wonderful algo developed already to analyze link patterns. Now it has become very important to understand how google analyze various patterns to rank sites. Very less info is available on this subject because its very dynamic and difficult to hook in google pattern algo logics. :)

Well one of the link paterns I noticed was if your site is over 4 years old you can get your links from anywhere and still rank good

Interesting post, this is why if you do a link exchange you should check regularly in case your affiliate decides to sell his site out to some questionable site.

I usually put my name on the bad rep but don't give much of it anyways. I hate it when someone gives bad rep for no reason or when they are wrong.
    BTW it wasnt me lol
