Hey, guys I was wondering if I manage to get my website to the top of the search engine for a not too difficult competion, do I need to still need to update more contents or get more backlinks. The reason I am asking this because I see website that haven't update in ages or recieve extra backlinks. They are still at the top of the search engine. These websites are not even large(maybe 9-10 pages at most). How do they do that?

Generally you need to continue building backlinks because your old ones may disappear. You may also encounter new competitors that try to outrank you.

I depends on what your competition is doing. In less competitive terms, once you get to the top you may stay there. If other sites that compete for the same terms are building content and backlinks you might have to work to stay there. If I were you I'd keep tabs on my ranking and do some more work if it slips from the top spot.
