A thread for Atheists - without the hullabaloo.

Because all I see is Christianity this, Islam that, Buddhists here, and Zionism there.

Sup. This is a chillaxed Atheism thread. Agnostics can heap in too. Basically instead of rawr rawr rawr hate hate hate bitch bitch bitch this is going to attempt to be a social, and active thread, for those of us who lack belief in a higher power, or are unsure, or just have general questions about Atheists in general.

Basically, instead of coming at it with a rage filled rant, puffing cheeks, and anger about everyone and everything, why not try some calm discourse?

If you have not guessed, I am not religious, nor am I agnostic. I am an Atheist.

So what is Atheism to me? It is not a belief, it is not some hairy conspiracy theory, or some reason to rant against the world. It is just that. I lack belief, and have no need to believe in anything beyond that of human knowledge, science, math, etc. Basically for me, the world is as it is, and the people are as they are. I don't kick puppies, I don't drown babies, and I don't burn holy texts. I have volunteered for habitat for humanity in the past, and I do help people when I can. I don't go around spray-painting churches, or screaming at people on the sidewalks, and I live a normal life by any of the major standards.

I certainly have posted in the past here, professing my lack of faith and admonishing what I see as hypocrisy, and sure, I can be downright venomous when attacked. I don't turn the other cheek, but I do not go out of my way to bash on someone just for their beliefs. Unless of course, they state that the moon-god has decreed a mass murder of kittens has to happen or else. Then I will.

So anyways, I figure a good format would be something like this:
Who you are, what your views are, and sharing a little about yourself.

    So Hi, how are you?

God will burn you in hell for starting this thread, exposing your heretical beliefs.

I believe in God, and i don't care what others think, that belief is just for me.

But one interesting thing i would like to share is a thought which was given by a student probably 13 or 14 years old in a inter school debate.

The boy said that just like our body is control by our brain and our brain do lot of things some of which we are not even aware of but are crucial for the body to remain active and healthy, for example the direction to the heart to beat regularly.

Similarly the universe, the solar system, black holes, supernova, all things occur which are controlled in some way or the other by some central command just like our brain controls ....so the power(God) that controls all is there for sure, it is everywhere and are affecting us in some way or other..

I fully disagree. My view, which is based on theory (not hypothesis) is that chaos rules all, and systems are a product of energy, so long as there is energy there are systems. However systems break down - entropy - and eventually there will be no energy left in the universe - leading to utter chaos and darkness.

Billions of years in the future mind you.

Ok. I respect your views, what you are referring as product of energy, I am refereeing that energy as God.

Why can't there exist a possibility of a presence of a central command system. I know that Science has no proof regarding it, but there are lots of unexplained things in the word currently. For example we all know that there definitely exists a cure regarding HIV Aids, but since we have not yet found the cure then as per your logic the cure does not exists.

There is a strong possibility that there is a power, probably in times to come, science may find out a way to contact that power. That too can probably take centuries or more..

    LOL.
As per my religion, after I die my body would be burnt and my ashes would be immersed in Mother River Ganges, so the burning part would be taken care on Earth only..

What you are discussing is entropy (randomness). Basic physics says that systems break down over time and that entropy (randomness) increases. But it then begs the question - what set everything into motion? What mechanism set entropy to be so low many billions of years ago?

Separate concept - energy in use has a direction and a function. Can energy also have an intelligence?

I would say the closest label to define my religious beliefs (or lack of) is Agnostic. Yet, I've always had somewhat of an interest in what might be defined as the "supernatural." UFO's, ghosts, parallel universe, weird stuff like that.

In the future, hopefully, I won't burn in hell for heresy. :)

Pfft. Sometimes, there just aren't enough crosses to nail people to, enough stakes to burn people at, or enough stones for a good public stoning.

When I was in college I witnessed many public stonings. Some of my friends were stoned as well.
