Both of my directories are getting indexed very well in every search engine but Google it seems. I was wondering why that may be the case. Take my directory Nven[dot]com as an example:

    Google 0
    Yahoo 215
    MSN 11
    Alta Vista 249
    AlltheWeb 239

It has 0 sites indexed in Google and only 11 in MSN but 215 in Yahoo. It is about a month and a half old now and has many backlinks comming to it and good traffic. What can I do to get it indexed in Google? I already submitted it to be crawled a while back the domain is over 8 years old thought I would point that out. Hopefully someone can find the problem for me. :)

    Thanks in advance!

Wow, it's nice to have 0 and 215 pages indexed in google at the same time.. ;)

But in all honesty, you're still in the sandbox. Give it time and you'll get out or try some other (not really WH) techniques to bump yourself out.

By indexed you mean back links or that Google doesn't show any result from your page?

This tool will query all the major search engines (Google, Yahoo, MSN, Alta Vista, and AlltheWeb) when you enter the "site:" operator with your chosen URL. It will return the total link count for each URL.

    See results here

Well I checked on Google and found Results 1 - 10 of about 69 for "nven.com. Is that the way of checking if it is getting indexed or not?

Then there are no need for worries. It is normal that Google don't show any back link results for your site. Let see what's happen during the next page rank update.

If the site is new then you don't have much to worry about. With new sites pages get dropped in and out of google all the time.

google is getting too much like a slumbering giant nowdays - my last site took over 6 months before it was indexed. By that time it's already out of date. For faster indexing, pay for high PR backlinks or google will probably just ignore you.

If you search directly on Google, you actually have 4 pages indexed. Here are some tips to (hopefull) get indexed better:
    • Don't submit your site to Google search engine - oops, too late for that.
    • Sign up with Google Sitemaps and submit your sitemap in XML format.
If nothing else, it will give you some diagnostics.
    • Create a HTML sitemap as well, linked from your footer.
    • Create some deep-links into your website, for example Games Directory.
    • Add your website to your forum signatures.

I hate it break it to you but I think the directory kick is getting out of hand. There are so many directories that google continues to disvalue them. They are hard because they are not unique.

Sign up with Google Sitemaps and submit your sitemap in XML format.

These were very helpful just what I was looking for. How do I get my sitemap URL? I could not find it but found the page to submit it at least. Any help would be appreciated. I tried submitting the RSS feeds but got this.

The Sitemap must be located at http://www.nven.com/. To add a Sitemap at http://nven.com/, first add that site to your account and then click the Add a Sitemap link beside it.

The sitemaps at google are for large sites and won't help you get indexed faster. The html version on your site however may.

Guys, I know that a lot of you are saying that you shouldn't use Google's Add url link. But guess what, that has never heart my rankings. Of course to speed it up a a little bit you may buy some links from other sites. But seriously I can't understand people that recommend NOT to use Add URL link.

Well I don't intend to shoot you if you use it we are just advising you from experiance in the past. But the addurl is proven to not increase chances of indexing any.

You can add an RSS feed, and you were very close to succeeding, Sejje. Look closely at the two URLs in Google's error message above. All you need to do is add www. to the front of your RSS URL, and you're done. You can also add your RSS feed to Yahoo SiteExplorer.

Is this your RSS feed? I'm afraid that it won't be of any use because it doesn't contain any URLs. You really need to have a feed that contains links to each of your categories. Also, I notice that the feed autodiscovery tags in your HTML heads are wrong - '/' is missing after domain name.

As visio suggests, you'll probably find it easy to stick to a HTML sitemap. On the other had, the structure of your directory is very simple, so a sitemap isn't really necessary.

One final note: your HTML code is full of errors (I appreciate the code might be written by someone else). Search engines aren't comfortable with webpages that don't parse well. Also, if you don't make your meta descriptions unique for each category, most pages will end up in the supplemental index - though for link building this isn't a problem. The meta keywords are incorrectly defined.

Where do I get and or make an HTML sitemap? I have seen them for forums before but not for a regular site. I added the sitemap successfully now. Thanks for everyones tips and advice so far very helpful. I am eventually going to get someone to make a custom template for the site and will work on those errors. I will change the meta keywords right now thanks for that tip.

The same as you create any page. Just put the name of each page with a link to it and maybe a description of whats on the page. This must include the contact and support pages for visitor purposes.
