Well do you? I am interested in knowing your revenue, profits, and marketing techniques.

Also, if you could give me a job there that would be great:D

Where are you located math20? That will have a big impact on your marketing strategy.

I do some web work through my IT company (which I own). The only reason I do web work is b/c I'm in a huge market and I can always outsource anything I can't do in house.

At the moment no, but I regularly come to DP to find reliable web developers. I'm about to really up the amount of web work my company does so I may be in need of help in the near future.

What is your skill set? Do you have a list of sites you've developed or worked on?

As to the whole owning your own business thing and getting an idea of what people are making doing website work; it ranges all over. There are single people doing work on the site all the way up to huge firms with tons of people doing big bucks.

If you are interested in becoming a hired gun I would recommend you setup a good website first. This seems like a no brainer but there are tons of bad web sites out there for web developers and IT professionals. Second, I would send you to Craig's List and advertise yourself as a web developer for small business. This is a pretty lucrative market b/c there are tons of small businesses out there with crappy sites, or new ones with no website that need help.

I have a customer that had done really well advertising on Craig's list. After I finally revamped my corporate site I put a listing up. It took two hours for some one to email me looking for IT work. I couldn't believe it. This is the esiest way to get your name out to the local market. It will also give you an idea of what other web designers in your area are charging.

After you get some clients, go to the local chamber of commerce and join. I get about 80% of my IT business from my local chamber.

This should be a good start for you.

I used to be a partner in one of the biggest web companies in my country during the bubble 1.0.

The best advice that you will ever get is this: Partner with advertising agencives. They are directly in contact with massive amounts of marketing money from the big companies and usually don't know much about web business.

And second almost as important hint: Do not bill too little. It's even more suspicious than billing too much.

just my 2 cents (euro that is)
