Guys, does any of you use any free hosting programs? Do any of this have any problems with adsense displaying and also, what other cheap hosting services are there? Ed
if you're serious to make money on adsense, then dont go for free hosting or domain, it will help in a long journey without any problem... free hostings can change their rules anytime and you could struggle on that time.. and they also popups their ads and cause problem to your visitors and in results low CTR
Yea,most of the free ones are not reliable. Hostings are really cheap nowadays..You could get a 5G package on hostgator for only $120/year.
It all depends on what you expect from your hosting provider. I use blogger.com as a publishing platform and it's good enough for me. You can customize their template to include adsense ads anywhere you want. The only downside to their service is that they require a blogger.com toolbar at the top of your page (which can be hacked to be invisible but that's against their TOS)
No one knows how Google calculates their algorithms. With this in mind, we DO know however that Google takes the age of a domain into account. It also makes sense that they take into account the quality of your host. If you use a free host, how serious can you be about your site? It makes it seem like your AdSense site is just that, an AdSense site, and not a serious player in whatever field (keywords) you are targeting. It makes sense to pay for a host to help in this regard. Like I said, no one knows how Google calculates their algorithms, including myself. Still, you want to do everything in your power to improve your rankings, and your host MAY help your site.
Alejandro, My home page is a PR5 page. That is a decent page rank in my opinion. Contrary to common opinion, hosting in free domains can actually contribute to your page rank if the hosting provider (in this case blogger.com which is owned by google) has a good ranking of their own. In my specific case, my blog is getting indexed more frequently due to the fact that it is hosted in blogger. Google move in mysterious ways.
Thats one specific example, and the fact that it is owned by Google discredits the theory for that. It is obvious that Google's own properties will have a higher rank, even though they say its all fair. And its a blog as well. I would like to see how it works with a normal website, hosted with a provider other than Google.
I think Google sees (its own) Blogger in a good light, but with a free hosting service there are a lot of uncertainties. They could start displaying competing contextual ads, putting you in difficulties. We only pay $9.95 a month for unlimited domain name hosting, seems a good deal to me.
I use a freehost for several of my sites. They do not place their own ads, allow me to use AS and have been up and running for years.
