Cache is a saved copy or the blue print of Google bot that tells the last crawling time, date and page.

Indexing is the process of saving your website page with the help of crawler.

Cache generally used to watch the date and time for the last visit on that particular site by the crawler of search engines, in cache you can reach the updated as well as the older data content of the site, where as indexing means saving your data in database of search engine and displaying accordingly in the search results.

 

According to me Cache is a process when search engine bot or crawler come to our page or found any update on website,
And Indexing is a process after reading the updated element it stores those new elements in database of Search Engine.

 

whenever search engine crawlers comes to your site and take snapshot of your webpage its called Cache. After cache search engine save these changes in their date base that called indexing.

Caching (Cache) happens when Google crawls a specific web page and take the snapshot of that particular page. And after it crawls to that specific web page, it will update that page details to it's database and that process is called indexing.

You can check the cache date by Querying - cache:yourdomain.com

You can check the indexing date by Querying - site:yourdomain.com (there will the last crawl date along with the results)

This is only for Google, I don't know about other SEs
