it's my first time setting up social networking pages for my websites, and i'm still a bit confused on the benefits of it. is having a facebook page purely based on social interaction? or does it hold some water when it comes to SEO? because i'm working on a site right now that doesn't have that much social interaction involved, but i setup a FB page anyway. should i just embed a FB Like button for my website URL rather than Like button for my newly created FB page (that'll probably be inactive due to a lack of social interaction in the niche)?
The backlinks and views facebook can contain in just a single post can be very beneficial . From one friend adding another and having the domino affect go around especially if the post that's being advertised gets bumped. I'm not sure on a big group that's created though. Haven't had the opportunity to see a great SEO source from that.

What I would do is Find a way to combine FB users to increase your Google+, Like maybe user content locking CPA offers that if they click G+ they get an offer. So not only are you getting spreaded likes but ur increasing Google+ for yourself as well. Win/Win! But thats just on paper as I dont have a facebook fan page or any google+ webpage ranking yet, should have some by end of the month ranking.
