live sports score feed to update website????

Discussion in 'XML & RSS' started by blkhwks19, Apr 21, 2010.

I have a webpage that I built and coded, and Id like to use live sports scores (from an RSS feed of some kind, I presume) to keep my website updated with the latest sports action. Kind of like my own espn.com or something like that. Im a web developer so I like playing around with websites and different coding mechanics. This site would not be used for any commercial purposes, just for me to learn and play with new code and technologies and still be involved with sports, which is a huge passion of mine.

Anyways, I cant seem to find a good source for live sports scores that I can use. Anyone have any ideas? I would imagine it would be in an RSS format of some kind, much like that of a news headlines RSS feed. I could subscribe to that feed and parse it, and i could display the results on my website. This way, if i ever wanted to find out what the score is of a particular game that is in progress, I could just go to my own website instead of, say, espn.com. Like I said, no commercial or malicious intent here, just want to play and see if this is possible for laughs and giggles.

Anyone have any thoughts or help on this topic to help me achieve this goal? Thanks so much in advance!

Anyone have any thoughts at all? Anyone else looking to do the same thing? Anyone having any similar issues?

Depending on what sports you are thinking of featuring, you might want to first check against any relevant infringements.

I know of several sites that had to stop featuring live scores because to do so requires a license to show them on your website. Here in the UK, the FA are particularly strict on any football (soccer) sites that show live scores and even fixtures - sports are big money business and the scores/fixtures are part of where the money comes from so you can understand why they are keen to protect them.

For this reason, you may find it difficult to find RSS feeds of live scores for some sports. Sorry to ruin your plans, but you may as well look into this now, in case it saves you some work!

Really Simple Syndication (RSS) is a lightweight XML format designed for sharing headlines and other Web content. Originated by User Land in 1997 and subsequently used by Netscape to fill channels for Netcenter, RSS has evolved into a popular means of sharing content between sites (including the BBC, CNET, CNN, Disney, Forbes, Motley Fool, Wired, Red Herring, Salon, Slashdot, ZDNet, and more). RSS solves myriad problems webmasters commonly face, such as increasing traffic, and gathering and distributing news. RSS can also be the basis for additional content distribution services.

    Hi,

yes actually, you can try to check this site xml-livescores.com
they provide xml feeds that includes live scores, fixtures, stats in a very reasonable price. they also provide a very fast and reliable service and you can actually make your own game stats using their data. they cover almost all sports in europe and in the US.

    thanks.

If you are looking for Livescores/data analysis and even live streaming feeds, there is really no need to spend a dime on any of them.
All these are easily attainable for free, much less even the tools and resources don't even cost a cent these days.
Just a comment of concern when i saw that there are still people paying for these services at such high rates, so decided to be a busybody for once.
Just to add-on, what i've said is always what I do know and never even a little doubt.

    Thank You
    Have a Good Weekend

I had the same problem like you, when developing my hobby website footballpredictor.eu. I found xmlsoccer.com and have been happy with that service ever since. They only offer soccer-data, though, so I'm not sure if they are suitable for you?
Anyway, one of their leagues is completely free (Scottish Premier League atm), so you can develop and test up against their API without having to pay a dime ;).

Just about your message below, can I ask, where would I find free streaming feeds? What tools and resources were you averting to? Thanks!

I have a Sports Site where handicappers post their Best Pick of the Day. I have a setup where I can manually correct each pick by selecting winner or loser. How could I install a program where each pick is corrected by itself? Like an automated system? I heard about scrapping live scores? Any ideas? You could be involved if you like.

i have had live scores on my site for over 3 years now and i control width x length x and where i place it on my forum, the cost is $0 and it never stopped streaming live results ever, it even shows matches that will start within 6 hours of game time world wide every country that plays soccer, here have a look and judge for yourselves.

    Try fantasysportnet - data http://fantasysportnet.com/data/home.jsp

They cover the major European football leagues … EPL, Bundesliga, Spanish league, Serie A, and provide stats through a simple API.
