I’ve let this site go dormant for a while and have decided to push it a bit more and so am in the process of redesigning it, I think I have the layout the way I want it, but feedback would be useful. Thanks Late Film
Metal bands and horror sites tend to have the actual content on black; here it's just the background. The reason I have it black is to highlight the content. I did have a textured coloured background, but changed it because I don't want people to look at the background, I felt black highlights the content. I looked at the UK's most popular film website empireonline.com who had done just that and used thier example. ... Thanks for the feedback though it’s appreciated, I will give some thought to a charcoal grey background. I want it dark though as I really want a visitors eyes drawn to ads and content and not graphics, logo's and backgrounds.
I love the top logo and the overall layout. Not so sure about so many google ads on the homepage that is abit annoying. Would prefer a bit more interactivity as a user, like a movie poll, or place to chat/a forum. Because when I opened the site it looked good but I didn't really know where to visit after that! Regards.
The layout looks inconsistent to me. Why don’t you put the date in 3 column. Movie column Headlines, and latest trailers and everything else here, and ads column. That way the whole thing will look more organized.
I see what your saying, but I don't want it to look too organised because I want people to click ads. One mistake many people make is putting them neatly out of the way where they can be ignored. I believe you should deliberately add some "Bad design" if you want to draw attention to things that people would otherwise ignore especially as people are very blind to adsesne.
... Yeah I think a movie poll would be a good idea. once articles are clicked on people can comment. I think your right about user interactivity, but I am not sure I want to get into running any more forums they are not so popular these day's and moderating becomes a bore. My other film site is in Gorilla Nation so it may be in the future I can add more interesting ads in those spots, the adsense is a bit overkill at the moment, but it's really there partly as a place holder, I don't want to start off with no ads and then have to add them in later.
its layout seems confusing. I see the point for your adsense clicks but it makes me want to hit the back button.
... do you think a menu bar across the top would help with "home", "reviews", "trailers", "contact" etc.? Like I have on my genre film blog HERE
True, but your domain and concept is too good to consider it just an Adsense Ad site. The site can stand on it's own and generate advertising rev. Go grab some public domain movies at archive.org, flash em and have a classic movies page with comments. You got a winner if you push the envelope. Cheers! WineGuy
i think it is looking good, no need to change the layout, but removing some of the annoying ads would help. Make the boxes smaller.
Your site looks real good. You need to get rid of some of the ads. It looks more like a MFA website because of this.
