CNN - Out of the closet and in to the tank

"Journalist" Soledad O'Brien yesterday interviewed Harvard Law grad Joel Pollak regarding the significance of the recent Brietbart video of Obama, and his support for the "radical" Professor Bell.

I'll have to admit, on first viewing the Obama video, I was left scratching my head, trying to figure out the significance of it. Apparently, all the hoopla is about the fact Professor Bell was a self proclaimed racist that believe d white people would gladly sell black people to space aliens, if offered a sufficient sum of money. During his time at Harvard, Professor Bell was one of the proponents of Critical Race Theory which, according to Bell, had quite a bit to do with the White Supremacist sham most of us call the US civil rights movement.

Apparently nobody clued O'Brien into the specifics on Critical Race Theory(CRT), and especially Dr. Bell's ideas on CRT. In her interview, she decides to go hostile and lecture her Harvard Grad guest on something she herself was not quite clued in on. Check it out.

Now while it is not at all surprising to see this "News Anchor" treating the guest as hostile, assuming the guest is a conservative, and while it is embarrassing for O'Brien to get her facts wrong while trying to white wash Obama's connection to a radical, the funniest/most disturbing part of the story was yet to unfold. Following the dispute, a small army of citizen editors arrived on the Wikipedia page for Crictical Race Theory and removed any occurrences of the words "White Supremacy". I can only imagine the irritation for some of these "reporters", not being the only source of information on the planet and all.

CNN's new slogan: If what we telling you isn't true, we will make it true.

[Edit] Catch the whole interview here. It is off the hook. One of O'Brien's guests goes out of his way to imply Pollak is a racist, and has an unnatural fear of black people, while O'Brien hammers away at the idea Critical Race Theory has nothing to do with white supremacy. As it turns out, Joel Pollak's wife is....... Black!!

I normally like CNN, but around election time, people like O'Brien and Blitzer should be muzzled. They are disgrace to an otherwise decent news outlet. Either that, or change their title from "Anchor" to "Opinion Journalist."

CNN has a long standing history of being over-culturally correct . So you'll see all kind of "creatures" in their garden from the "weather whale" to various type of extremists . But sui generis their news coverage is pretty good .

I have to agree. Candy Crowley, John King, Anderson Cooper, they all seem to try to keep their opinions to themselves, despite the fact Anderson is the gay heir to the Vanderbuilt fortune. Wolf Blitzer not so much, about the same as David Gregory on MSNBC.

They also usually keep their hyper partisan freaks like Ronald Martin, Paul Begala, Donna Brazille, and Jeffery Toobin from ever having the label journalist, referring to them intead as political analysts (or legal analyst for Toobin). Its a subtle distinction, but an important one.

The fact Soledad has been running around with the title "Morning News Anchor" for so long, selling her leftist identity politics with shows like "Black in America" or "Latino in America", is a blight on the CNN brand. I'd say after this most recent gaffe, they need to either fire her like they did Rick Sanchez, or they need to demote her to the hyper partisan "analyst" she already is. If they don't, that fragile status they hold as attempting to provide unbiased news will evaporate.

Well CNN is pretty much the only media channel that makes me respect gay people without shouting it or trying to blast me with LGBT propaganda . People like Richard Quest and Cooper do more the combat homophobia then all the guerrilla activist and GLAD combined . With the exception of a few outbursts CNN does stay true to "Business , not personal" idea . That's pretty much the only thing that separates them from cretinous propaganda networks like RussiaToday .

I'm not very familiar with the US version but they tend to keep the International Edition pretty clean . The documentaries however are sometimes left leaning and slightly biased .

CNNi runs out of the UK and Hong Kong, though they occasionally patch through US programming. I tend to look at CNNi as interchangeable BBC. No where near as much opinion journalism as you get in the US version of CNN, but a much more leftist take on the news as a whole, which I suppose is to be expected out of the UK. From that standpoint, I was really happy to see Fox acquire Sky and give the leftists a run for their money.
