How do I stop spammers to post on my forum?

    Hello guys!

I own a forum where anyone can discuss any commercial opportunities with the forums experts (www.bigcommercestation.com/Forum). I have hosted the forum some 40 days ago and after a few days I saw continuous flow of spammers comments on my forum. Many spammers post comments promoting their sites and some of the sites contains virus. As my sites are protected with sitesecurity so I came to know when a viral link is posted on my forum.

Now a days I made an option of publishing comments after admins approval and introduced captcha for every posts or comments but till now I cannot get rid of this problem. I receive more than 1000 topics/post per day and all I have to remove from my forum on the next day. How can I stop spammers to post on my forum?

You can hire a forum administrator ("vBulletin consultant") or find a DNS service that specifically blocks malicious traffic

Not sure about SMF,but it's probably like phpBB has the Q&A CAPTCHA feature.

You set a question on the registering form and one or more answers.

It's one of the best technique to reduce the amount of spams to zero!

I would say CAPTCHA plus use another challenge of some type. This should also be on the new member registration page as well.

    You can do three things:

    1. Install a captcha plug-in
    2. Block certain IP addresses from which a lot of junk originates
    3. Monitor your forum continuously at all times and delete unwanted messages and posts

I have added captcha plus challenging questions but none of them is helping me to stop the spammers.

Cloudflare cuts down on spam, sometimes, or are you asking about the vBulletin consultant?

You're using SMF,and that might be the reason why I failed giving you the best advice on reducing spam even though the question on registering form usually does it.

If you were using phpBB then the question CAPTCHA would have definitely stopped the spam coming in.

A captcha is most certainly going to help with spam bots (not so much human spammers). Do you have traffic from countries that you don't want to hit your site? You could also look at putting blocks on your server for countries you don't want to access the site.

Try installing the stopforumspam plugin. I've found it pretty useful on my myBB forum and it's available for SMF also. You can have it check usernames, IPs and email addresses of all signups against their spammers database.

It doesn't catch everything, but it does stop a great deal.

Also if you notice that spammers are posting in the same areas, enable moderation for new threads. It helps.
