A few months ago, I responded to an invitation to submit websites to a free directory. I spent HOURS submitting sites - the directory was loading each page like lead and molasses, only to have the majority of them rejected. I got really burned with submitting to directories, and I don't feel like repeating the experience. Is this typical, is that what I should expect from most directories?
mosty directories may reject your site if your site does not meet criteria according to them They would different rules for different directories
Really depends a loot on your site and submission title, description, for example don't expect a MFA to be approved on a loot of directories.
Try submitting to paid directories - I think you'll find that most of the owners do a quick and quality job. Time is money - it sounds like you lost a day's income + you would have lost all the increased income you would have got from the higher rankings that accepted directory links would have given you. Submitting to free directories can be a false economy.
Well you never know when Paid directories shut down or move to another domains. If you submit to free directory you need to wait maybe 2 month or more for them to even check you. I think most directory editors have gotten tired of all spam. To sad...
I own a directory with about 2500 - 3k worth of links. I dont know about other directory owners acceptance guidelines. But I generally reject a site if the site is: 1. Not fully completed 2. A complete adsense site - with little or no info besides ads 3. One who trys to be funny and submit a site like "penis enlargement" in the "weight gain" sub cat. Or to try and put a porn site in "online dating" sub cat. 4. I do not accept adult related websites. 5. The submission was so far off base of where it was submitted to - that if one doesnt take the time to do a complete search for the appropiate topic / subcat. Than I am not going to take the time to accept it or move it to the appropiate area. To me it would appear as though it might have been submitted by some auto script.
Or combine both. In my opinion you should hire someone to submit your site to 400-500 freebies and buy yourself a few payed submissions. That should help a lot.
You spent hours and you are mad? There are never any guarentees when submitting to any directory... Thats life...
GAH! I don't have MFAs... only 100% original content, graphics and instructions etc. written by yours truly.
That was not my case. if it was, I would understand why the sites were rejected. You can see some sample sites in my signature, they are typical of the rest of my little network.
Im curious, were you trying to submit to top level cats or were you being genine and submitting to the deeper defined subcats that exist within the top level cat. I'm guessing you were.
I see that all of ur websites do contain PPC ads and most of the admins nowadays hate this (no offense meant to anyone here). I have even seen directories which now have PPC detection and once u hit the submit button u get a msg saying "Your website has PPC ads". And another important thing to remember is choice of appropriate category.
Totally genuine. The directory was fairly new, and I had no choice but to submit as deep as it went. No keyword stuffing, I wrote descriptions the ODP way.
Yes, all of them do contain PPC, but the content is original. This particular directory didn't mention anything regarding rejection of PPC websites.
You win some, you loose some. Don't let this spoil the online enterprise. Personally I don't bother with the kinds of directories you find in DP (no offence meant), usually - because the only ones that make a difference are the ones that do have quality guidelines in place. So a new one - most of the time really not worth it, IMO.
yeah unless you yourself live in a third world country I highly suggest finding someone else to do this for you.
Now, the last and final, key question is... Whats the directory that you were trying to submit to? Maybe its the directory, not you.
