I can verify you get a ton of traffic from StumbleUpon if your article gets picked up by them.

Recently I got a travel-related article into Reddit's Hot Picks. That sent 10k traffic - and then it was followed by StumbleUpon visitors.

I think with StumbleUpon you need more life-related, aspirational topics to attract readers. Tech-related stuff doesn't do so well. With Digg, it's the other way round. My travel-related story didn't get anywhere after I submitted it to Digg.

StumbleUpon is still sending a steady stream of traffic to that page that got listed.

I tried the StumbleUpon advertising service for one of my other sites, and that was cheap - around 5 cents a click. Not really sure how to measure the success of who visited, however. Those who understand arbitrage etc better than me might be able to figure out how to make this work. StumbleUpon is definitely an underused resource.

Quick Online Tips wrote about the StumbleUpon effect too
    - can't post the link as I am a forum noob

The stumbleupon visitors do not make you money because, they "stumble upon" your site, they are not targeted visitors at all, far from. And if they stumble upon a site with a lot of ads they can easily give you a thumb down as they are looking for quality sites.

If you're trying to sell something then non of these sites are good for "making money".

When you stumble you can request sites in specific categories so in someways it can be more targeted than being on the digg homepage.

I can tell you I've got a lot of repeat visitors for my website that people stumbled on. In fact I got dugg because a user stumbled on my site.

Anyhow if you don't want the traffic then don't go for it, works great for me. Guess it depends on how good your site is

I second that ! If your site is good people will stumble it and at the end out of those thousands someone will buy something or referr someone to buy ! Like I said every visitor counts .... It is up to you then how will you make him open his wallet !

to get amazing traffic from Stumbleupon, firstly you must provide either very entertaining.. creative and informative pages on your website, or all of the above.. and then you'll see "tons of bucket loads" of traffic to your site..

..such as I have had to my sHaMoZzLe.com website.. and I'm talking 1000's of unique visitors on some days.. that's part of the reason why this page has had over 50,000 unique visitors.. you don't believe my counter then check the Stumbleupon review on sHaMoZzle's most popular page..

or this page with this Stumbleupon review on sHaMoZzle's 2nd most popular page

I'm still getting very regular hits 3 months after I had the 1000's of hits on those threads I mention above.. and if the contents popular as they are.. the more diggs received to keep pushing them up as Stumbleupons :D

..watch those diggs continue to grow! ;)

I had previously found that stumbleupon traffic converted rather well compared to some other free advertising on the web.

Are you trying to get stumbled for your digital camera reviews site? I don't see why anybody would thumbs-up that one. There are sites like dpreview.com and fredmiranda.com and luminous-landscape.com with extremely good digital camera stuff... why would anybody want to point out yours?

I'm not trying to be mean, just help you recognize when you need to redirecto your effort. That site isn't going to get any viral/mouth-to-mouth traffic because nobody's going to say "wow! this is really cool!" You should pursue other paths to traffic, or make the site uniquely cool in some way.

Hi iatbm. Good to hear that. But is the traffic from StumbleUpon targetted traffic? I mean do the users convert.. if you have a business site?

I'm working for a site and would like it stumbled. Let me know ur sites..

I'd really appreciate if other people from Dublin and Ireland stumble this.. :)
