I did send this to a Moderator, but it looks like it never went. A daft question perhaps, but they come naturally to me all the time. Usually when I join a Forum, it is explicitly clear what party games are on the curriculum. You know - Computers, Animals, Chat etc. - even the AK47 Admiration Society has it`s core subject. But with Digitalpoint, I have to confess my complete ignorance and inability to decipher what exact purpose the Forum is constructed for, except the Chat Section which is obvious. Most of the Forum sections are a complete mystery to me, I have no idea what they all mean, they do not seem to fit my pattern of insignificant activity or have a specific meaning. I do not know whether to discuss the price of Hershey bars or delve into the cybernetic complexities of computer systems and program design. Please can you enlighten me ? Thank you so much - John B
DigitalPoint forum is a forum for people who are interested in search engine marketing, search engine optimization. It was started to offer support for web related tools.
Many thanks Lonestar, Your reply helps, but leaves me in a rather abstract state of mind. I do not have any interests in Marketing or Business matters unless they directly affect my PC operations and some of the other sub-forums are non-specific. Whilst a sub-section named "Google" would attract an avalanche of PC punters (it always does), it would be to discuss the the infinite variety of services that Google offer - some good, some bad, some work, some don`t. Discussion of Google as a company only is fairly pointless and apart from satisfying a casual interest, serves no purpose. Google is now a Global Mogul, immensely powerful and dominant worldwide. They are impervious to criticism and competition from whatever source. Any benefits we mere mortals get from talking about their company status and policies is completely irrelevant. Google is like a cybernetic Tsunami, it simply rolls on regardless and sweeps everything away in it`s path.
What Smyrl said is the old purpose, the new purpose is to collect spam and store them on high end servers.
The Google section comes under search engines and therefore should only be discussions relating to that. Threads about any of their non-search offerings (mail, calendar, social networking) should be started elsewhere.
