Well its not so terrible to run a web directory. Just approve the listing quickly rather than long queue and it should be spam filter.

    Only list quality links
Never have more than 200 pending
    Update regular
    Have a custom design
Have low cost featured until established.
Have rules and stick by them.
Do not use it as an email collector, I get some scam banking emails on email adresses I have only used for directories.

If you are talking about directory from your signature I would not call it that you have build a directory.
Cookie cutter same all same all directories most likely will never get ahead.
Quality directory takes investment and I am not only talking about the time. It cost money to promote it and keep it spam free.Successful directory takes years of work.
And unless you live in a 3rd world good looking directory is not going to pay your bills after first year either.
I run my Biz Dir as a hobby and although its well established, top SERPs, high PR unique design local directory, it took me first 2 years before I could call it steady $100/mo.
It gets better with time but far from home run I am afraid.
    Good luck to you!

Start it from scratch all over again, stop taking free submissions, differentiate, dont start a directory then ask how to make it successful, do it the other way around.

No other directory owner will tell you how to be successful if it means it will compete with their own.

It depends what you see as a successful directory.

You might want to take a closer look at one of your sites "and we also give you a guarantee that our testimonials will be spoken by actor which based in US/UK! " needs improving.

Always quickly respond to the messages from your customers. Make the path from start to payment short and simple. What is obvious to you, can be complicated and confusing for your customers. Do not use complicated captcha. I always leave the sites that do not allow me to send information from the first time (hello to recaptcha). I'm not ready to spend my time on guessing non-existing words.
