I plan to submit my site to yahoo directory today, but I find that it need at least $299 a year, which is not a small cost for me. I want to if it is necessary to list my site to yahoo dir, and how does it benifit my site?

If you are on the budget I am sure you could skip this one , otherwise its always good to be listed by Yahoo Dir. It basically means that you are not a flyby business.
Just like registering your domain name .com or .info and then for 1 year a or at least 3-5.

If you have a few thousand dollars that you want to commit to directory listings then the Yahoo directory would be on the list of sites to submit to. However if the budget doesn't stretch to that then take a look at some other top directories (plenty of lists around) and see whether any others offer better value for money. You could get several good listings for that money.

For me, Yahoo! directory has brought good traffic and good visibility in search engines. But there are many other ways of doing this (I mean, getting traffic and visibility).

If your budget is tight, don't go for it. Because they may reject your website even after getting paid.

Directories of the Big giants like yahoo directory and Dmoz i believe are the best in terms of enhancing the value of an domain, if there is a budget constraint its better to allocate few resources in longer run for there types of services.

I don't think it is any use of submitting your site to yahoo directory.

Instead of Yahoo directory,it is better to go for niche directory submission(directories who are related to our website). That will be more beneficial.

I think it's better to spend that sort of money elsewhere -- there are various other methods (both paid and free) that you implement in order to increase traffic to your site. If you're on a budget, definitely skip the Yahoo submission and focus on writing articles, adding content to your site, backlinking, etc.

Not a single link will brake or make your business. If you can spend that $300 more wisely, then do so and come back to get listed here once you can afford it.

Yes submit your site to the free directories at first. If you get good results you can then use premium directories.

To get your site listed within one of the hottest directories you are probably going to pay for it. The cost for submitting your site for review by the Yahoo editors is $299.

Well, I think it's too much even for an annual subscription. Instead you may subscribe your site to hundreds of free directories.

I didn't submit any of my sites to yahoo directory because I keep postponing doing it but I would not pay $299 for the inclusion, especially considering that it's for 1 year.
