Social sites, like facebook, viral traffic is also very big - but it combines all forms of online marketing. Some of my largest campaigns are by accident - I have had links from Korea go viral on some of their sites - I have no idea where or how, I have had 4chan link to me and go viral... sites, bookmarking like Digg were very popular a few years ago, reddit, knowyourmeme and such sites are also popular... there's little clans of groups every where online .... all you can do is provide unique and in demand content and if it's rare people link to you as a source of information - I have a sex tape that is hard to find and popular - so people link to me as a source...
SEO will be larger, it will still be optimizing for Search Engines but the later part would be bigger like, video search engine, places, mobile etc.
Yeah mobile is becoming quite large, one quarter of my traffic is now mobile traffic - it seems the web is one step behind when it comes to mobile, then gaming platforms like xbox360, playstation2 etc. Wordpress for instance is still behind on mobile developments - there's still no authority plug ins for mobile themes and switching - that are flawless... even xbox has issues with app's... that will be the future.
Did you think that up all by yourself!! Days?! Haha... so insightful... or just boosting post count... a lot of thought went into that post - I can tell.
SEO is a continuous activity so we can't tell what is after SEO. But, in a gap in SEO activities we get traffic to our site and get increase in our selling. Again it depends on situation to situation.
Hahaha yes, money after SEO. But I almost forgot about the mobile thing. People are starting to tap the mobile world too. As our technology progresses, I believe there's a brighter future for mobile contents. Smartphones work as much as laptops do.
Make money, and increase your user experience for your site, and continually to tweak to see better conversions.
There are no ‘post SEO’ practices... because SEO itself is ongoing process. Once you are done with complete on page and off page optimization, you have to make sure that you are maintaining the achieved rankings bu competition analysis, content updation and backlinking.
Now I'm thinking my question is silly. Oh well, no one can really predict the future of SEO. I'm just glad that people are able to make SEO a cash cow. Most "traditional" people do not really consider SEO a source of income or perhaps majority of people around the world do not know about it yet. Lucky for those who are able to make use of SEO.
Speaking of social networking site; this idea just crossed my mind. Maybe, someday, social networking sites will provide more services to customers. There's a big possibility that it will be more than affiliate marketing. Who knows, Facebook might just venture into business other than selling Facebook credits for its apps and games.
The next big thing after SEO is already live i.e. SMO (social media optimization). SMO is nothing but optimizing a website through social bookmarking or networking platforms like digg, delicious, facebook, twitter etc.
