popunders on adsense sites?

Just wondering if its allowed to use popunders on a site having adsense on it? And to those experienced with popunders, do they tend to bring in any significant income? And do you think they will scare people away / annoy people enough to not come back?

Pop unders are fine and they can bring some decent income if you have a lot of traffic. Don't bother if you have under 1k impressions a day. Personally I think most people are used to them by now.

Cool thanks, sounds like I should give it a try then. Im a little confused by the statistics for my visitors though, the counter I use, digits.com, say I have some hundreds unique visitors a day, but my adsense say I have many thousands a day, and statcounter.com says I got around 2000 uniques a day

I had that problem too...use google analytics along with your other counters....analytics has a delay of about 24 hours but I find it to be correct...some counters count the search engine spiders as visitors..

Statcounter and analytics seems to be pretty good and usually provide similar stats. I would suggest Value Click, that's what I use anyway and they are pretty good.

I get decent traffic and my site is growing nicely so I considered pop-unders, then thought, they piss me off when I go to a site so I make a point not to return. I feel adding them to my site would be detrimental and have not done so. You will likely see an immediate gain in income, but as far as long term goes, you may just be hurting yourself. Moniter your traffic closely including page views/unique and return visitors and I'd recommend removing them immediatly if either of those stats start to drop.

Of course if you do not get many return visitors anyway, popunders could be a good option. I was thinking of putting them on a particul site I have, then relaized alot of its traffic comes from bookmarks and return traffic generally, so decided against it ultimately.

Pop-unders are NOT allowed on sites with AdSense on the, from the Google Program Policies:

I believe that means the Adsense ads may not be in the pop under itself, not that Adsense is prohibited on a site which utilizes pop unders.

I think you're right about that. I have always read that as meaning you can't have pop-ups at all, but reading it again, your interpretation makes more sense.

I was led to believe that adsense couldn't be used ON a popup...but not to sure about being used WITH popups. I find popups put me off visitng websites, and unless you have a high traffic count, they are really quite pointless.

hm i have had popunders on my site since yesterday now, and currently the visitors and return visitors have not decreased. Actually they have both increased lol. But so far it havnt brought me much money, around 300 impressons and not one single click, and a total of 0.27 $ heh. I only have them running on my index page though. Was wondering, if I put the script code on all my pages, will the popunders pop up like crazy then whenever a visitor goes to a new page, or is it possible to make it only pop up once per visitor or so? i use clicksor btw.

If you had them popping like crazy, I think it would put people off visitng your site. Surely you would benefit more from display content ads? Also remember the wonders of the popup blocker.

Unless you have a lot of views you won't make much from pop unders. Also that seems kinda of low even for 300 visitors...My average eCPM for popunders for all my sites is about $2.30+ with value click.

ok, well im experimenting around some with the popunders for the moment. Will keep an eye on the visitor stats to see if it scares people away or not. At the moment I added the popunder code to all my pages as I have more people entering my site from other pages than the index page. But I set the popunder interval at once pr 6 minutes so it wont be poppin like crazy every time they go to a new page or click a link etc- will see how it turns out

Use pop-unders if you your site doesn't require returning visitors. For example, on my templates website, visitors usually come once pick their template and don't come back again, so a pop-under in this case would be no problem. The returning visitors ratio compared to unique visitors is very low. However, if you have a website where people come back daily then pop-unders I believe would lead to a decrease in traffic in the long run.
