My forum has well over 1 million posts now my problem is how do I create a sitemap or should I not even bother making one? will google still index my site?
I have a site with several million pages as well (and it keeps growing). Not that long ago I have been asking the same question about how I can create a sitemap for my humongous site. Well, the truth is it doesn't need a sitemap. I can see Google crawling my site daily, so are other search engines. The fact that sitemaps are the thing of the past is implied here: http://www.adworkz.com/blog/xml-needed-sitemaps/ Hope that helps...
The limitation is that you can not integrate mote that 10k file size or 50k links for a single sitemap file. And worst is that most of the free sitemap generator only 500 links. As you have more than 50k links you should go for a paid generator and integrate sitemap within sitemap.
I suggest that you check how many pages of your site already indexed in google. if google indexing just a little amount of your site pages, then will help you a lot to create a sitemap.
i think that sitemap is essential or the google rot and the readers will get lost. with sitemap, your website will be more clearly. with so many posts there, you have to mange them well.
Hi, You should separate your sitemap category wise. Sitemap should not be more than 10MB. So, it is the best way to separate your sitemap into multiple category. There is no limitation of sitemap. You can use a sitemap index to combine multiple sitemaps.
You can use paid services for creating a sitemap and also combine multiple sitemap which will help your website to get index.
