Tons of news agencies and well known magazines use WordPress for a reason:
CNN, Yahoo, Harvard, NASA, FOX, The New York Times, Flickr, Rolling Stone, Meebo, C|net, Le Monde, Nancy Pelosi, Stanford, MIT, Tech Crunch, and Reuters...just to name a few.

These are some of the most successful news agencies and respected magazines in THE WORLD.
Benefit from the time and money that they have already spent asking that exact same question, and what their research into the matter has come up with.

    Use WordPress.

My suggestion for any news website is to go for KREATIO as it provide you the cms which is easy to handle, even the non technical guy can handle the cms with ease. Editors will surely love it and it fullfill all the features that you have mentioned.

Regardless of the CMS you choose (which in my opinion Wordpress would work fine for this) you should consider usability for the content of your news site. See speckyboy.com/2012/02/12/usability-rules-for-content-sites/

I know both WordPress & Jumla are good. Why don't you try something else? I personally will request you to try Ektron CMS 400.net for your news website. I have used this CMS for my website, and find it quite user friendly. You can manage all your data, and can edit website content whenever required. However, it is slightly expensive than other CMSs. That is the only downside.

    Thanks & Regards,

There are a million options, all of them depend on what you what you want from the system, who's using it and a myriad of other factors. For basic news stuff, WordPress is ideal.

What you talking about? None of these sites use Wordpress except Tech Crunch! - Phony.
All of them using custom CMSs build mostly on different Javascript Frameworks! Use wappalyzer to see.

I also working on the same issue right now and was choosing between Wordpress and Joomla. I familiar with Wordpress and it is easy to use, but for long run Joomla seems to be more responsive so it is hard to say. To work with Drupal you need to be advanced PHP programmer. WP will be a cheapest choice.

Based on your specific needs, you might want to focus on using WordPress. Also if you have time, read this article about the different advantages and disadvantages of the 3 most used CMS--WordPress, Joomla and Drupal. wordpress is by far the most friendly and used cms platform in the world. plus it's free! so unless you have some serious cash to pay for a software company to develop your own cms platform, i suggest you give wordpress a try. I've been in the blogging industry for more than 5 years and i started with Joomla, but after a while i realized the limitation joomla had, plus it's more easy to create a website with wordpress than with joomla.

hope that helps. btw, if you need a theme for your site, give me a pm. i am working as a wordpress developer and i think i can help you with your project :)
