Directory Submission Prices

Since I'm so close to launching "the best ever directory in the world" :D I was wondering what is the standard pricing for a directory? Featured and Regular links?

I know there are a lot of factors to be included ex: PR, current capacity of directory and popularity.

But what would be a good starting price range for a newly launch directory with a PR around 4-6?

give your directory's links the price you think they're worth, if you think its worth 30$ then do it. It all depends on PR anyway, if its a PR4 i wouldn't sell them more than 10$ and less than 3$.

I would evaluate all the information that you can but I think you need to consider that the best way, is to have paid regular and featured links from the start date of your site ie no free submissions

If you have a top designed skin with some distinct functionality then maybe you can charge higher priced submissions

Not sure that there are any benchmark for submission prices

Since you close to launching id strongly recommend against not offering free links. In the initially stages of having a new directory you need ideally offer free regular submissions to attract interest in your site. Once you have a good number of links and ideally have achieved a good PR then think about going fully paid - going fully paid however and removing free regular links will have a huge impact on your site traffic and hence impact any advertising that you have on your site (such as adsense). Best of luck...

It depends how much money you are putting in and what it would take to make you profitable enough to stay in business ;)

I don't think G have exact set dates for PR updates but it is about every 3 to 6 months depending on when G decide to move on the update

At the end of the day its just as much about testing the water so to speak - test different amounts and your likely to find an optimum amount. In addition if your running a niche directory you can probably look at having slightly higher prices - also if you have a unique professional looing directory (not a standard free template design) then this is likely to bring you more paid submissions!

For my directory(linkunow.com) I have free regular links and $5.00 sponsored links. My pr is 3, with pr on back pages between 1-3. Good luck with your directory.

I think PR is a major part of your Directory, if you don't have a high enough PR then, then very few webmaster will want to submit to your directory....

another question...stay you start off a PR3 and charge a certain price ....then your PR goes to 6 do directory owners usually charge a higher price once their PR are at a higher position?...or do you recommend keeping it at a set price from the start?

Once i fix a rate for my directory, i never change it(or increase it), only for a small time i do give discounts :)

Whether my directory is totally new or is an established with good PR, i think changing of prices would be a bad option.

pr 4-6 price would be between $5-$15 then depends on how much funds you are allocating on promotions.

directories like Alive and Aviva are only PR5 directories and they charge from $30-$75

that's a pretty big difference compared to $5-$15

dencha please take care what you post both are PR7
    Alive PR7
    &
    Aviva PR7

They are both exceptional directories and it is misleading when inaccuracies are posted about these or any other directory

Once again please try to post accurate data :)

    Thanks

I'm sorry about that...i used the wrong tool, I actually got the "page strenght" instead of the "page rank" (SEOMOZ Page Strenght Tool)

    so with a PR7 directory...$30-75 is reasonable?
