The best place to place Google Adsense ads on a website page is the place that is best for Google Adsense ads on that particular website page.

I would suggest you to not apply the codes in the sidebars as they are less visible. You should always put them on the main content areas for maximum returns.

I hope my answer was helpful.

It largely depends on the type of site you are having. Google has given specific details about what format of ads is most suitable for what type of site. Like for a gaming site they have presented specific formats (with a missing skyscrapper) and for articles sites they have recommended some other kind of format (usually with a skyscrapper).

Put the adsense ads with the main content. This is the best place IMO.

Best place is within the content and blended to look like part of the website.
Don't make it 100% obvious that and away, "oh, I'm am an annoying ad, don't click me".

Just experiment and see what earns best!
Adsense ads works best, where they are visible to your visitors.
For instance top banner; evebody gets to see it as your page is opened.
    Consider yourself as a visitor.

    Haha.

In all seriousness, you have to experiment because it's different for everyone. Use channels to track your clicks.

Before the content works well for me, but also at the bottom with a 336x285 or a 728x90 unit. This is for people that just scan over the article to the bottom and are not really interested in reading your content, and hopefully an ad grabs them before they leave your site.
