Sorry for the text wall, but this is explained in the post below. Sorry for the eye strain. [new paragraph]I have been a lurker on this board for many years. This site has helped me learn to program with php, css, mysql and other web development languages. If I could afford to donate to this site I would. These boards are very extensive and organized and I wanted to take the time to say thank you for a portal that has helped me with so many situations. I do have a few issues with the site but I know you can get away with it because of the amount insane traffic this site gets. The intro popup advising about premium membership is very annoying. I'm not sure if a cookie is set where if you decline it no longer shows up for X period of time or not but I noticed it shows up often and randomly. For instance, when I went to write this thread it popped up. I selected no thanks and it redirected me to the forum main directory, not the forum I wanted to type with. The redirect should be changed to the applicable forum you were on, not the main board.[new paragraph]Second, there seems to be an issue with formatting. I just created a second paragraph but I just pushed the preview button and all the text mushed into one huge wall of text. This is an intermittent issue. Sometimes it is fine, sometimes it is not. At this time I am using IE8.0 I also use google chrome but it does not seem to happen with that browser. [new paragraph]Your session timeouts are too quick if you do not have the remember me checked. I'm assuming it is set that way to help with server things or bandwidth. I am asking if the session timeout be extended, or somehow save the post data from a thread created. A few times I have written a huge post like this one, clicked post only to have the site ask me to log in again. I forget where the link directs me but I lose the content I post. Even if I hit the back button a few times all is lost. So I am finding myself using Copy Paste before submission to make sure if things time out I wont lose my post.[new paragraph]I understand with a board this size many rogue scripts attempt to bypass security to post their useless advertisements and I noticed new users have the script BB tags disabled until they are earned after X posts. I was unaware of this and posted clean text instead for help with a php issue, only to have everything deleted. I was wondering if a new user be informed that those BB tags need to be earned, and if a user posts code text outside BB tags have them warned that the post will not be accepted or removed, or another applicable resolution.[new paragraph]If a moderator could edit this post and create a new line break where they see [new paragraph] it would be appriciated. as a wall of text is annoyingThank you for your time
Sounds like your problems stem from you using Internet Explorer. If you enable cookies properly, you shouldn't have the issues (or better yet just use a different/better browser).
It is not a cookie issue that is for sure. I even tried to reset IE8 and attempted to practice post with using the preview feature and got the same wall of text. I wonder if anyone else has the issue, it could be the network i am behind. Maybe blocking some scripting you have. Ill try IE8 at home and get back to you.
I changed from IE to Windows 7 and found that W7 is much better with regards to what's mentioned here; however, I've never had a problem with the intro popup, it's there for a good reason, to enable people to go Premium. If I wasn't retiring in the very near future, I would avail myself of the Premium offer. DP is a brilliant website - long may it continue...
