Do you think shows like the Daily Show or Colbert Report are influencing kids to vote?

I've heard a great deal of kids get their 'news' from it.

    Kids tend to vote Democrat.

The Dailyshow dealt with the kerry slip up better than the serious news shows.

Saw part of it...sounded a bit more reasonable. Frankly I won't watch either show, as one takes themself too seriously, and the other doesn't. Comedy shouldn't be about politics, either....yuck.

    Maybe

or maybe it was that this administration was so bad that it finally got the younger voters out in hopes that they can change things

Someone must have influenced them, though. It seems like you can't turn the tv on any channel now-a-days without hearing something about politics...sadly that's even on the comedy channel, which is geared to the youthful market.

But isn't politics always on the tv during election time?

I think there are many reasons that might explain the turn out. Those shows might be one one but they are far from the only ones.

I think things like the fact that the internet allows people to get so much info, the war, all the scandals, the economy, etc played a bigger role then those shows.

plus you need to take into account all the groups trying to get the youth vote out.

then you also have the fact the era the younger voters grew up in. 9/11 and it's aftermath the war on terror and Iraq. It should be easier to under stand why the vote turned out higher then it normally does

also remember that last election also brought out a very high turn out but the fact that it was hyped for so long people down played it because they though it should be higher

personally as someone who would fall under the youth vote catagory (under 30) those shows didn't influence me to vote or even how to vote. I voted before I start to watch those shows and will when ever they go off the air.

How many do you guys watch The Daily Show / Colbert Report? I while it is comedy, these two shows make politics interesting to youth that are not a government major. You certainly dont see the kids watching C-Span....

I use to watch, but I feel a sense of bias, rather than comedy. I don't like comedians whom take their political views too seriously....

For example...Bill Hicks. Funny at times, but his views are a tool.

My below quote actually talks about that. Denis Leary is commenting on how musicians want to tell you how to vote, and he's basically saying 'fuck that'; while his solution is that these musicians 'take more drugs' to kill themself. lol You'd have to listen to his comedy to understand my sentiment. Anyone in the entertainment industry should be about laughs, not serious politics.

What amazes me is that some lefties actually believe that these shows are news. They are comedy shows doing parodies etc of news stories. They are not informative in the least!

I remember last year on another forum discussing this very issue and some lefties swore that they were legit news resources.

Same here, I didn't know who was going to do what... all I knew is what the other person did wrong... One guy stole staples from work or something like that!

What happened to a campaign stance and those great promises?
