How to keyword target ...other than domain name and title

    Hi,
from the title of the post I think most people can say that I'm a beginner in this trade.
The history so far is as follows:
    - I've created a website in a niche which I considered profitable for pay-per-click ads. It's an arcade sit.
    - I've build some links to it,(not all of them appear in alexa, only a very few of them, still can't figure out why)
! The website does not appear in the search for the specific keyword which I tried to target!

I understand that I may take some time, and effort to build enough backlinks to my site for it to become relevant BUT how do I make sure google targets my site to the keyword I'm looking for?

    any kind help is appreciated,
    thank you.

Hey Omul, I like your site its got a nice style to it.

Several things that I noticed right from the begining:
    1) the keyword "cool math games" is pretty competitive at the top 5 slots of google with several sites having a PR of 5,6 and 7.
    2) these sites also have thousands of backlinks to their page (how long have you been backlinking?)
    3) I noticed that their on page SEO is off - you may want to use that angle to rank higher and quicker (title, URL, description and header)
    4) just keep building links back to your page, its not a quick process but it will certainly last for a while once you get to the first page

    good luck!

    Hi odlanor,

Thank you for your quick response.

My website does not even come into the search for the chosen keyword(and I've looked through more than 10 pages) although I have chosen a domain to do just that.
My question is, how can these sites target 'cool math games' more efficiently than my site is it a question of site content or offsite content (the number and/or what is written description of the backlinks)?

    Hello Omul,

Ideally, I would recommend that you edit your post and remove what keywords you are targeting as this could only increase the amount of competition because others will definitely steal your ideas. However, I looked at the Keyword Tool and while it says the competition is low, this is definitely not the case. I was simply looking at the top results and you are competing against a PR5, PR6, and PR7. This means they have several backlinks, probably high quality ones. Most have been established for years. To get traffic off that keyword, you would have to do quite a bit of work and spend quite a bit of money.

Hey Omul - I definitely don't want to discourage you but I agree with PHPGator. As I stated in the previous post, the first five slots have a PR of 5,6&7 and have thousands of backlinks. At very best it will take several months to even show up on the first page. I think you do have a chance since the last five spots are very low PR of 0,1 or 2. Your way in would be on page SEO as I dont see much on your site.

Also, I don't think your domain is targeting your keyword. If you want to rank for the term "cool math games" you will have to spend some time doing both on & off page SEO.

Hope this helps, hang in there cuz I do think its possible!

We did a bunkbed website before, and it took a long time and a lot of hours of building links to start rising in the search engines. I can take months for you to see the fruits of your laboe, but keep going. You will get there!

Well to be honest, I didn't bother with the SEO since the WParcade plugin I am using is said to be SEO optimized.
For offsite keyword targeting I'm putting as a title in articles and directories the keywords that I'm targeting, don't know what else more can I do, but I will try to look more into my site's SEO.

thank you for your support and encouragement

My suggestion is better try to rank for other BUYER keywords as well, instead of depending only for same keyword.. the key is not just targeting only for one keyword, instead target for some 2 to 5 keywords, then you may having success to get traffic atleast for other keywords..

Try to use LSI keywords as well, use wp seo plugin it tells you what misssing in your article.. Ofcourse that plugin can cover only for on-page optimization.. for offpage, u deifnitely have to ceate backlinks and also try to make sure that U keep adding some fresh content daily, google loves the websites that has daily fresh content!

I noticed there were other keywords getting quite a few searches as well. I'm not discouraging you on your website, i'm simply suggesting that you try to tap into a little bit less competitive keyword, dominate then, then move up from there. For example...

blue widgets get 5 million searches each month
blue widgets for kids get 50,000

You can rank for the second one much more quickly probably (you have to do the research), and it contains the other one which you can work towards later on as well since you are using a longtail keyword first that contains the shorter but more competitive one.

I suppose I never answered your original question though (by accident). You need backlinks and lots of them. Most of internet marketing and SEO and targeting a keyword is about backlinks. Developing and getting those backlinks on authority sites in your niche usually costs money, but you will probably need at least some, especially if you hope to dominate the niche.

OK, the idea with targeting a narrower niche it's good, I will try it.
Regarding the adding of fresh material I think It's better to add to the category that contains the keywords that I'm targeting than to the rest, just so that I get good keyword targeting.
