Does it make sense to take interest in PHP, ASP.Net, and Rails if no DB is needed?

And there's my proof @NetStar that you are a good boy. You do what you're told and never ask questions. Speak! Speak NetStar! Good boy. Here's a treat.

It's not about doing something just because you are told... It's about using the right tool for the right job and not being close minded to improving your skill set when technology advances to help YOU.

Storing data in a text file limits your growth. Creating routines to perform "CRUD" operations on your text file is just reinventing the wheel poorly and opening yourself up for all kinds of problems.

If you have a song on your computer and would like to make a copy of it to listen to... would you be more likely to upload it to your ipod or hold up a 1987 tape recorder to your speakers so you can settle for distorted cheap sound quality because you refuse to purchase an ipod which is newer and more efficient for you to use??? With your logic you would probably just figure out how to get it on a Record or 8-track...

I think it would be more efficient to put it on a drum.

Exactly and I hope you finally learned your lesson cause you thought a database was required in all situations.
Oh crud, I was wrong. You haven't learned a thing. Obviously you're a Windows coder. I will inform my *nix bretheren that what Ritchie, Thompson, Raymond, et al, have been preaching for decades was wrong.

Show me something you've made using your text file approach for saving data and I will show you the flaws.

I think you are boycotting databases because it forces you to learn something new.

I'm boycotting databases? Thank you for telling me. I did not know that.
