Breast milk cheese? Is this legal?

Discussion in 'Legal Issues' started by Gorgomorgo, Jan 29, 2012.

One of my vegan friends posted this on my Facebook wall. It's...interesting. I'm not opposed to the idea of breast milk cheese so long as it's been tested, but REPLACING dairy milk with human milk? I don't know...sounds like a legal nightmare. Thoughts?

Ugh!!! okay so cattle are in miserable conditions and forced to lactate 3 times their normal production of milk. What's the guarantee that humans will not be subjected to the same torture? Milk that belongs to the calves is snatched away from them - so what's the alternative??? Snatch away milk from human babies?? That's the most ridiculous proposition I've heard.

I think only those people will consent who are in dire need of money. And if more money is offered, mothers will be treated like guinea pigs. If humans give away their milk what will the babies have? So either the mother has to produce more milk or the baby has to go.

I think this proposition can lead to disastrous consequences for babies and mothers.

Breast milk is sold constantly online if that helps. I believe making cheese and selling it publicly requires some sort of food handling license. Rather weird thing to make and sell honestly

It's funny the amount of disgusting things we eat from animals without a second thought, yet when it comes to something produced from a human it's crossed the line ;)

I wouldn't like to think my cheese may have come from human milk. Though I do like where that human milk comes from.

I don't see it being a regulated food any time soon, not in the EU at least. I think the US is cloning animals for food? Why not clone more cows?

A shop opened up in the UK last year selling ice-cream made from just such ingredients, and whilst it got good reports from people - it was shut down due to the UK's laws on selling such body produce (you can't sell blood or sperm over here either to avoid just such the situation when people are pressured into it for money)
