I see a lot of links around here offering WordPress services and themes with the word "WordPress" in them. Do you guys know that is a trademark violation that the people at WordPress ask service providers not to do? Knowing this, do those of you that use these sites trust them knowing that they blatantly disrespect WordPress in this way? Just curious.
It is, BUT and there is a but 1. Would Wordpress take down every single site using the name wordpress or using wordpress as business purpose only would damage their images and also the number of people using wordpress as CMS as these site will obviously denigrate the platform but wil lalso turn down to some other platforms (this is also acailable for the logo) as said in http://wordpressfoundation.org/trademark-policy/ 2. You can actually find a bypass by promoting clearly the foundation on your site as said:
Do not use "WordPress" in your URL's is pretty cut and dry. People always try and justify violating someone else's trademark by saying that they "Are helping the brand". If the brand wanted your help, they wouldn't ask you NOT to do it. Exceptions have to be approved and is for non-commercial sites. And it still says: Plenty of successful WordPress service and product providers do just fine without ignoring the wishes of WordPress and violating copyright. I just think it's a bullshit way to do business. If a service provider will do that, what else will they do?
