Hi, How do companies market to webmasters effectively? For example, companies that orient around webmasters like Disqus, Woopra, Urchin/Google Analytics, etc., target specifically at webmasters, but how did they do the marketing and promotion when they just began? How about when a company has become more matured? Traditional online advertising doesn't sound effective, since only a small fraction of Internet users are webmasters.
Hello- My take on your question is that these individuals (webmasters) from a B2B sense, can be reached through blogging and social media. Kinda like sales, where you prospect, reach out, build the relationship, etc..., you might follow this same approach within social media and blogging channels. Find out where they hand out, forums are really good, twitter, niche blogs, etc. Consider the sales funnel and buying process. What stage are you wanting to market in?... Need recognition, research, comparison, purchase. This will impact what strategy of online marketing you choose.
I'd say it's about finding the targets main way of shopping and market that way. As well, Webmasters like to talk so word of mouth is a big factor. It's all about planning.
Webmasters look for the advice of other professionals in their area, they compare a lot, so you need to be very specific (lists) and offer an extra thing that makes your service special above all Also, I recently see Carls Jr with a fb campaign for geeks, offering a special coupon, and the add had html tags and everything XD
Webmasters can be reached out through the social media space as well as forums where they might be regularly participating and looking for new vistas in the online arena. Following them on the social media gives a fair bit of info about where they usually Hang out, their circle of friends, which conferences/seminars they are attending, upcoming events etc.
Webmasters are looking for quality products - if you have a good product that is coded well and performs better then another product you will get some looks.. otherwise - you better provide quality information that will get them to review your website.. Please notice I keep saying QUALITY!
Do a google search for link building outreach tips and they will tell you what best practices to follow in order to communicate with and market yourself to other companies.
Webmasters like trusted sites. That is why you have to make your website as reliable as you can to able to pass to webmasters.
Webmasters are always looking for something that can improve their sites or their clients sites. If your product or service can make things easier for them, increase profits, improve visitor response, etc, then you need to show this. Guest posting about this on blogs with a large following by webmasters is the best way to get their attention. If you can increase revenue or user response, then do case studies. They get a lot of attention. If what you offer saves time, post articles about how webmasters can save time with your tool and show them in a video. People say trust is a huge selling point, but that is not true unless a webmaster is investing a lot of money with you. If you are offering a simple, cheap service or software, most webmasters are willing to try it if it looks like it fills their needs. I don't recommend social networking. You need to build a good following and that takes time. Why build an audience when you can use someone elses? Don't underestimate partnerships. Again, use someone elses resources when you can. Forums like this are also great. Engage in the community and help when you can. Bring attention to what you are offering.
