Just to show what a lousy browser IE is and always has been, the very widely used javascript library, jQuery, had a meeting yesterday to discuss whether they were going to drop support for Internet Explorer versions 6/7/8. Doing so will greatly reduce the code size by eliminating all the hacks needed to get IE to perform correctly. Stuff not needed in far more modern browsers such as.....anything and everything else.
IE is trash, through and through. Why anyone would ever want it is beyond me. I'm glad JQuery (along with other services) are leaving it choking in it's dust.
Well, it's ok, but unfortunately people in other countries still use older IE versions a lot... and you know, when I say other countries I mean millions of users. But I still support them, It's OK to progress and let old IE die already -_-
You can't fix stupid. It's difficult enough fixing people who use the current version of IE. I mean, how stupid is that? How brain dead do you have to be to use IE at all?
I have one machine that I am forced to use IE5 on, AND I HATE IT WITH A PASSION. IE5 has got to be the WORST OS and probably WORST program MS ever released. I would not wish IE5 on my worst enemy. Unfortunately FF does not make anything that will work, IE after IE5 does not work, and NS no longer works except for the most basic (not updated) websites. And, unfortunately, MS left me high and dry when they shitcanned the program I use on that machine, so I am stuck until I have the time to learn a different programming language and then rewrite 100,000+ lines of code. The good news is that I have other machines that I can use FF on, so MOST of the time I can avoid the IE JUNK altogether.
@mmerlinn - I think you were being a careless & sloppy writer cause little of what you said made sense.
Ok, I will expand it a bit: MS = Microsoft FF = Firefox NS = Netscape IE = Internet Exploder IE5 = Internet Exploder 5 OS = Operating system
OOPS. My bad. Should have been browser. If you look at the context of the post, I was saying that FF does not make anything that works on that machine. Sorry if I was not clear.
As long as the dummies of the world continue using IE and the dummies of the web continue coding for IE, MS will not drop IE.
IE is a pain in the back side for sure.............. especially with that crazy compatibility mode nonsense.
Holy cow! That makes two...TWO...intelligent posts I've read on DP over the last few days! I haven't read that many here in a few years!
