It is interesting to see how many different domain extensions there are now-a-days. It allows you to have many different options when creating a domain name.
There are 250 ccTLDs and only 3 are marketed commercially: .CO/.TV/.ME <--- These domains are country codes and I do not consider these as legit extensions if you plan to use them outside there native country. .TV is for Tuvalu not "Television" .CO is for Colombia not "Company" .ME is for Montenegro not "Me" There are 21 gTLDs and 14 are not used freely: .aero/.cat/.coop/.edu/.gov/.int/.jobs/.mil/.museum/.name/.travel/.pro/.tel/.asia <--- You must provide a license or a piece of evidence to register these domain names. example: if you want a .edu, you need to be the director of a school to own something.edu or a passport to own a .name There are 6 gTLDs that are used freely: .com/.net/.org/.biz/.info/.xxx <--- in other words, if you plan to brand yourself globally, use these. Unfortunately, some of these do not have a purpose of it's existence: .net is used to be for networks back in the early 90's.... not anymore. .org is used to be for organisations... now it is used commercially. .biz is used for business... now it is used commercially. .info is used for information... and guest what??? the internet is all about information... non-sense of it's existence because it have no purpose... .com & .xxx are the only extensions that I think have purpose. .com for commercial (open for all ages) .xxx for porn (restricted for mature)
Dolphin.co Sells For $48K To Dolphin Energy a Huge Oil Company In The UAE http://www.thedomains.com/2012/02/0...dolphin-energy-a-huge-oil-company-in-the-uae/ Interesting that, in UAE, they're so aware of how .CO is doing: http://www.zawya.com/story.cfm/sidZAWYA20120126095545
and yet .co has only been launched for general purpose for about a year and a half now. Yes there are plenty of sites out there with .co, they are not hard to find... But at the same time, they are no .com. It will take years before any extension could ever dream of rivaling .com, and truth be told it will probably be a hand full of extensions that take out the way we do business now. Just my opinion Cheers

Has this thread died? Blacknight dumps .ie from free domain program, replaces it with .co StartupBritain.org rebrands itself and changes to StartUpBritain.co.
Well, we saw a few big players come out with .co domains, but it doesn't appear to be catching on. .com still reigns
