I need to make a design of my web portal on Freelancer dot com or elance. Never had a deal with sites like that. If I hire a designer there, will he find images (from iStockPhoto) for me? Or I will need to provide him images that I want to see on my site? do I need to tell him what exactly I want to see? the new look? (Actually I am not a designer so I don't know how I want my site to look like) Thank you
You can provide your own images, sample design. Yes you should tell them exactly what you want and they will design you a mockup, once you satisfied they will convert the mockup into a website.
With any designer, the more you know the better the service. I recommend creating a brief which includes: your business name, short history, business objectives, target audience break down, products/services offered, website objectives, example websites you like (and why), example website you don't like (and why), and anything else you think is important a designer should know. The designer will give you a price quote, and you can ask about image prices. Personally I do not believe most clients have good images, unless they were taken by a professional photographer (who was working with the designer). But images often do help the designer understand what direction you are looking for. Regardless, any half decent designer will ask you questions to better understand your needs. If they are slapping together a generic design without asking the right questions, chances are you're wasting your money because your website won't perform as you want it to. Good luck
is this algorithm applicable to established design studios or to freelancers on elance/freelancer dot com also?
What xira posted is spot on, regardless of who you are working with. Be they a freelancer, a studio or a major agency. What xira is highlighting is the importance of telling whoever is building your website/application as much as possible about yourself and what you need. Saying, "I want a website" to any provider isn't useful, giving a couple of paragraphs is more useful and can get you a quote (though most decent providers will dig for more information), but giving a detailed brief with information about you/your company, your wants and needs from the website and things like your goals, requirements etc. will give them a really useful insight into who you are and what you actually want. Put this way, if you are always wooly (from my experience, a wooly initial brief normally indicates wooly answers when you start questioning the client), then the solution won't be as good as if you are really specific. The best solutions come not JUST from great providers, but from great providers who are working with 'on the ball' clients who know exactly what they want, where they want to go and make their business and history and direction known and clear to the provider.
Below are the details which you know before hire any web designer around the world. 1) Communication 2) Skill 3) Trustful 4) Price 5) Ready to give you support whenever you need tomorrow. 6) Understanding of business requirement 7) Easy to get target audience
now days all content of web designing is available on internet so therefore you have no need to provide him/her any images content so he/she knows about it.
Hi, i think you have to buy images on istockphotos and the programmer will charge you for that too. Why not try Kompozer? It is What You See Is What You Got (WYSIWYG). Or you can try to use Wordpress as it is easy to change templates and add plugins.
to Maz07, I have a web site which I want to redesign professionally by skilled designers. Yes, so who will be responsible for finding right images? Me or a designer that I will hire?
As a freelance designer myself, I like clients who can provide me with as much details as possible. I have a template in Microsoft Word with questions they can answer so it makes the job alot easier for both of us. I would also recommend leaving the images till last as you never know how many/little you need and what spaces to work with. And yes, using stock imagery is best (paying) hope that helps
Hello Michael190s, that depends on you. If you want to find a designer that can help you find photos stock then maybe you have to pay them. If they ask for photos stock payment, i think it's proper to ask for a receipt. A better way if you can subscribe for unlimited use and your designer can easily download it. How many photos stocks actually that you want or plan to have on your website? Is it like a gallery? How much are you planning to invest to pay for a designer? I will help you find one if you want and will let you contact them by yourself to discuss further.
