    Hi Everybody,
    what is the difference between <meta name="title" content=" "> and <title></title> Tag.
why some sites use both tags? should we use only one or both tags? If only one than which one?

    Thanks

    Correct me if im wrong.

But the <title> tag is much older, when all this stuff about SEO wasn't in the mind of anybody. Meta tags were introduced in html 2.0 but it just specified a few things, that use is """newer"""...But this was many years ago, now with the more spread and accepted practice of the semantic web (html5) <title> is very convenient. I'm agree with the info in the link that lifeplayer posted.

Normally meta tag is being used to provide some more information about the content which you are going to put on you page, which will be used by other companies search engines. Nowadays people use it because many of them have are still indexing meta tag. But there are some company like Google who has stop using on meta tag elements in there search engine so many people are not using this tags any more.

Your title tag is what appears in the browser when someone opens your site or page.

The Meta Tags provide information for search engine spiders and what you place in these meta tags will often be displayed in search engine results. It is still important to use meta tags when optimising your site for search engines
