    Hello my friend, Backlinks are like votes for your website... If a search engine see`s that you have a lots of backlinks your site will rank higher...

    But there some other factors that come into it also...

    * what keywords you use
    * the competition of those keywords
    *the on page optimisation of the site
    *where your backlinks come from and how many (authority sites? spammy sites? high pg rank? alexa rank?
    *if they are do follow or not do follow
    *if they have keyword anchor text (your keywords as a clickable link)
    *if the backlinks come in naturally and steadily

    When I said that google see`s backlinks as votes to your site... well this is only the case if the link is do follow... if it is no follow you do not get the vote...

    The best thing to do is shoot for 20% no follow and 80% do follow, this way you will look more natural to mr googley;)

    very, very wrong information. the nofollow tag prevents solely the PR juice from passing on from one URL to another. in simpler word, nofollow backlinks are beneficial for SERP, they will improve your website's visibility, and the dofollow backlinks will improve your SERP & help to increase your pagerank.

    afaig, if a link has nofollow attribute, bots will not follow it, or will not recognize it as a link. maybe it has a 50% effect on your page ranking as compared to a dofollow link. this is just what i think.
