Adsense and Blogger Beta - any experience?

A year ago, I started a website using Mambo CMS which within 6 months time got me over 6000 active members without any advertising (due to the genre at the time). However due to some issues the site went down for the past 6 months.

The site previously required members to join (so I still have over 6000 email addresses of my prev members) and most valuable is the 'video' section of the site which everyone can upload and it had rather unique content.

I didn't make much money then, the site was free, and I didn't know much bout this adsense stuff. And for the past 6 months I've been focusing on other areas of my life.

Recently I was motivated by a friend of mine who was consistently making over $20,000 a month. Another friend has generated over $3 million in revenue from his website last year. They told me that my site has alot of potential.

I started it up again, and have been strategizing ways of marketing it. Being lazy I just utilized Google blogger (beta edition) to generate a site with adsense content. While the site looks 'ok' right now I think there's alot of tweakin to be done. In the past 2 days it's had over 1000 hits but the CPR is just about 1%. Which translates to roughly bout $2! WOW! :p

Considering that i was a powerseller on ebay I am wondering if it's even worth it to go down this route, partly because all my site does is currently post 'youtube' videos of a particular content. No original content or media whatsoever on my blog. I might also occasionally throw in my thoughts, and in this particular field my name is somewhat known which helps generate a certain amount of attention.

I am just curious of what everyone thinks on how I could develop this further. Blogger doesn't seem very flexible. The impression I get of adsense is that it's quite hard to even get in the 4 digit monthly income bracket....

    any thoughts on this?

    Thanks!

Blogger and adsense aren't really a very good combination. Just to let you know blogger takes a cut out for your adsense earnings that's why they push it so hard. that added to low CTR creates a crisis.

    Thank You

Blogs don't usually do very well with Adsense. The reason being that the postings to the blog tend to vary widely and Google has a difficult time determining what the site is about, which results in non-relevant ads. Secondly, visitors to the blog tend to be repeat visitors who become "ad blind" after a couple of visits.

Why don't you try creating your own blog in a new domain. Not the free ones i.e. Blogger, Wordpress and etc. If you're site is really good and has lot of potential you must invest for the domain and hosting. Just my 2 cents thrown!

I have a few blogs in blogger and am doing really good, i started a month ago and i have already earned the first 100 a week ago. But, my blogs are directed to a specific niche, so that might be different.

If your blog sticks to a specific niche topic, it has a good chance of making money with Adsense. If Google can determine what the site is about, it can display relevant ads that may be of interest to the site's visitors.

wow thanks for all the great replies.

i would love someone to help me take a look at the site, but i had another thread about it and had my site link and looks like it got removed. is it ok for me to post it here? i don't want to seem like i'm advertising it.

the niche is in the dating industry, but within a particular population which has gone quite mainstream recently. within that industry i'm quite known. if you've read neil strauss's book on 'the game' then you know what i'm talking about.

thanks again for all the great tips.

Maybe this is the reason why I don't get relevant adsense ads. My blog do not focu on a certain niche. It's a personal blog, anyway I should try to create a new one with specific niche.

Specific Niche and lots of unique content is the key I believe.
