why signature on forums is significant?

Hi everyone! I am a newbie on SEO world. Does signature really matters on posting on forums? My posts on other forums were deleted because of the signature that I used. How can I make signature that will not look like a spam? Posting of links on forums is one of the strategies to have back links on the website we promote right?

A DP signature is an asset. It should be used wisely. By placing your site in your DP signature you site will get spidered by the major search engines. A DP signature in and by itself will not guarantee good SERPs.

The DP signature guidelines. posted in the FAQ, are quite liberal. Many forums use no follow links and serve to advertise your site to other forum members but can not be used for indexing or to build back links.

Some Forum Signatures are certainly very helpful, but I am not sure about all Forums as a lot depends on the traffic and users relative to each Forum

Of course DP signatures are of a high quality and value relative to the number of profile posts of course

Worth noting too, that like Smyrl posted It should be used wisely

We agree treat your signature with respect and the signature will respect you

Meaning if you link to a creditable site you will get a creditable feedback

Link to a poor quality link expect anything and the upshot of that is that you will have abused your signature ie been disrespectful to the signature

Summary consider and evaluate before you set your DP Signature Link :)

Forums are indexed more frequently than a regular site. Good for getting pages indexed and exposure to certain communities.

Isn't linking directly to your site in your sig not allowed by DP? I know I saw it somewhere in the rules.

I am kind of new here, but I have a question about the whole sig and PR thing. If my actual sig is on a page that has PR0 (like this page for example), how does that effect my PR?

a sig is just a link, what's the difference if you put a sig linking to a mfa site compared to a "good" site? it's just a link, not a living thing. maybe other users of the forum will think differently of you depending on your sig (if they care to look at it, that is...) but the sig itself will not give anything more than a backlink.

well, i don't know about that either. why don't you put a sig yourself it is so cherishable? it's good, but it's not the most important thing you need to get a site going. it just help, that's all.

Signature is significant because there is a possibility that visitors will click your signature landing to your site. Signature is allowed in forums. Go to your user CP and create your signature there.

It helps but thats it really. You might as well have a sig with link(s) to your sites as every little does help and its better then not having one i guess.

As we have signature links on over 30,000 threads I can assure you 100% it makes a difference and we have stats to prove it, and the backlink is the lowest of priorities if a signature link is linked to a site with a ROI feedback

Just because the toolbar shows PR0 doesn't mean the page has no PR.

Precisely, you can also build links using forum signatures and it may also increase the traffic of your site, especially if you have signatures related to the forum site you have joined.

Thank you everyone for the reply. I tried to make a signature on this forum but it was deleted. DP is requiring number of posts before they allow you to have a signature.

Signatures and live links within posts are not available to users until they have been a member at least 7 days, have positive (green) reputation and have at least 10 posts.

I'm trying to do this because I want to have more backlinks.

    Thanks for the advises guys!

I have thought that, too. But I've had a new link in my signature (the "Spiritual Retreat" one below) for several weeks, and it's still not indexed in Google? MSN and Yahoo have had it indexed for a good while.

Does anyone know if Google indexes home pages fast from your signature, but takes its sweet time with inner pages? The link I mentioned is an inner page, not the home page.

It depends on what forum actually.

If the forum is very active, lots of articles in it, lots of membres posting, and good PR such as DP. Wow you will get a whole boatload of backlinks.

One of the main reasons of sig links is backlinks.

Now if you go to a small site you probablywont get many backlinks.

Make around 250 posts here with a short to the point sig link, I can assure you in a few weeks or so you can get at least 25-75 backlinks from DP.

Other good sites with deep linked forums are: Sitepoint, TheAdmin Zone, , SEOchat, WebmasterTalk, etc.

I think on sitepoint i heard that they dont allow the search engines to read members sigs. Is this the same on DP?
