The text of a hyperlink is known as Anchor Text. Google and Search engine supports anchor text to rank in SERP. The landing page usually relevant to it.

Anchor text is very useful to promote a keyword. I don't think so that without hyperlink it is good to promote the keyword.

 

Using anchor test is a must, but you must choose the words wisely--in other words, people must be searching for the words that you are using in your anchor test. For example, if your site is called BobIsTheBest.com, anchor text doesn't matter because nobody searches that term. Let's Bob does auto repair...you would want to use "auto repair" and various forms of that (never link in on the same term all the time) to get visitors. And, it goes without saying I think, that term you use in your anchor text must exist on the page, preferably in heading tags!

Links *are* the web, without them there is no web, they are the single most critical and fundamental factor, the text you use is quite important, the text *other people* use is very important, yet sadly slightly less important than it was a few years ago, thanks to google bombs.

 

blacknet, I'm not sure why you are criticizing the posters above. Most have correctly emphasized the importance of anchor text. You are right in saying that links are important. Anchor text, as I trust you know, is the text of those links. And the posters here have rightly stated that good anchor text in the links is important. I'd be curious why you say "shame on you people" for making some positive responses.
