This is one of the reasons I have never liked affiliate programs in general. You wait a long time to get a sale, and then you don't earn that much. Adsense pays better in my opinion.

Yes, you are right. Adsense pays more. But also earning from other programs is an advantage as you are not putting all of your eggs into one basket.

Yes, I can understand the feeling

The problem here is that 'mazon only has 24 hour cookies.

What I mean to say is that, if your visitor booksmarks this site and comes a day later, you can say goodbye to those commissions (I am not sure, if they have changed it now !)

Anyway, the below link would be of use to you - give it a try

    http://www.ozwizz.com/amazon.php
    http://www.ozwizz.com/ebook.php

Although I have had it for sometime, never got down to tryin it

    So appreciate any comments

Amazon may pay small potatoes, but not every affiliate program is like that. I earn a lot more from affiliate programs than with adsense, and I have thousands of quality and unique content.
I usually earn thousands of dollars from one unique affiliate program, with 1h of setup time (some quality content here and there).

I love Amazon as a buyer, and I absolutely hate them as an affiliate. I gave up on them a while back.

As a company with an affiliate program, and an affiliate myself, I see both side of the fence. It is true that there is not much money in books, electronics, computers, etc. Simply math will show you that a $14 commission on $400.00 is not that bad (or unreasonable).

Most companies like Amazon.com are running on profit margins of 20% or below. At a 20% margin, Amazon.com would show a percieved profit of $80 dollars on that $400 dollar sale. If take into account the 2% credit card processing fee on the $400 dollar sale ($8 dollars), you are left with $72 dollars in gross profit.

So in essence, for creating that sale for Amazon.com, they paid you 20% of the gross profit. This is not bad when you take into consideration their operational expenses probably chew up 50% of their gross profit, and payroll, etc takes another 25% of that. When you add it all up Amazon.com is left with a net profit of 3% ($12) before taxes et al. You actually made more on that transaction then Amazon.com!

If you are looking for higher payout percentages, I suggest looking into becoming an affiliate of those that sell e-books, services, and other information based products. This is little hard costs associate with their "product" and they therefore have more money to give then a hard goods reseller or internet retailer.

Ya that sounds shady at best. Do you have a rep at amazon you can talk to about it at all?

You forget that most of their sales are from direct visitors and not affiliates.

I've personally never understood the popularity of Amazon's program. You need to sell a lot to earn a little. Guaranteed you'd make far more by running small CPA campaigns instead.

Well it was an easy way to have a fully functional mall with thousands or millions products together with content and get SE traffic and get sales.

There still are many people making good money with Amazon but I think it is not as easy as it used to be

Right now the CPA networks are the way to go :D and will probably bring more revenue as Amazon from the same amount of trafic...

there's nothing wrong with standard affiliate programs, you just need a better one than amazon. CPA isn't the only route to take.

agree completely. I've got affiliate programs that blow adsense & ypn out of the water... and adsense & YPN blow amazon out of the water... so yeah, don't give up on affiliate programs just because of experiences with amazon ;)

I make more money with my amazon site with adsense then the sales and even that is not much. I'll be lucky if I get a few bucks a day.

The payout is certainly less than stellar. We offer at least $5 per sale on over 250,000 magazines, journals, newspapers with delivery worldwide. Check out the programs that we manage on AcclaimNetwork.
