Microsoft is the leader in the software world. There have been over one million DIFFERENT malware issues (viruses, trojans, etc) with Microsoft products. No one else even comes close. Apple's malware issues are far below one thousand.
I'd also say Microsoft, but then again, I'm biased. My career revolves around Microsoft technology (primarily SQL Server and Visual Studio), and while MS certainly has its quircks (I hate Word's inability to let ME have funll control of my document, rather than it thinking it knows what I am trying to do), I strongly believe that Microsoft went from being the laughing stock of the software world ten years ago to a leading company again. 10 years ago, a standard Windows installation had everything wide open, ensuring malware basically was able to roam free. Nowadays, just like the *IX world, things are locked down by default, and the user has to open them. I intimately worked with IBM technology a year ago, and I'm glad I do not have to deal with those paper-pushers anymore. MS sometimes needs a good kick in the rear when it comes to support, but if you deal with IBM you first need to wait for them to hatch a new support engineer, and once you spent a few months working with a fresh guy and got him up to speed with how your business works, they'll replace him with a new guy and you have to start from scratch. Getting a freaking test server, from the day of ordering to the day we could start using it took no less than thirty (!!) days at one point. I really, seriously, honestly hope I never have to deal with IBM ever again.
You are also clueless. Like most DP posters, you don't read previous threads and spout things off without doing any research. In no way, shape or form is Windows "just like the *IX world". At least IBM doesn't change your whole world on you in the middle of your project. Wouldn't you be glad to be a Silverlight developer now? (Gone) Ever dealt with .NET after version 1.0? (Nothing remained the same)
I make a living with Microsoft technology. I'd say that I'm solid in my opinion, and I don't need other people to make up my mind for me. As for the *IX comment, feel free to reread what I posted. The comment very specifically relates to security aspects. I nowhere stated Windows is just like Unix. I just stated that nowadays, things are turned off by default. Which, has been standard in most *IX systems. Go ahead, re-read what I posted. And yes, I still deal with .NET. Heck, I started with .NET 1, and indeed had to relearn a few things. So what? I'd rather have that than be forced to push paper around like a drone all day, just because the corporate policy demands it
Things are not turned off in *nix by default in all cases. Security is built in due to the multiple levels of permission, user levels, and so on. Windows does not have that to anywhere near the extent *nix does. $50,000 in lost income and one year's development time is "so what". That's what it cost my company and me when Microsoft decided to change things without notice.
I'm sorry to hear about your loss dude, but I don't see that as a reaosn to go around calling people 'clueless' or 'losers'.
You haven't been here long enough to understand. Calling people clueless and losers is being nice. If I wanted to be mean, I'd say what I really thought.
