And here you are answering it. Is it because in your heart you know it is the truth?

If a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to hear it, does it make a noise?

if you are DMOZ and Google no longer deems you relevant are you operating as you always have?

    or better yet:

if you are DMOZ and Google no longer deems you relevant does anyone care about you anymore?

Not a question of beating a dead horse, the horse is dead so get off it. If you are a DMOZ editor and you spent a single minute on your "hobby" past August of 2009 you have wasted your time.
2012 will be the year that the plug is pulled on the whole thing. Mark my words.

Nobody in AOL management even knows that DMOZ exists. Couple of old servers that no one misses and couple of desperate individuals that still trying to make a couple of bucks from it to survive. It can continue for awhile since nobody gives a damn if it is dead or alive.

First, DMOZ does not run on a "couple of old servers" the beast has a million categories and there are probably thousands of stupid web masters submitting their sites every day so it has to be more than a few dusty Pentium Pro servers running DOS 3.3 sitting in a corner.

As for AOL management not knowing it exists.................Don't be so sure.

All it takes is an email to the right person

    [SUB]tim.armstrong@corp.aol.com[/SUB]

    and everything could change tomorrow.

    Who knows!

I doubt mailing that Tim will make any impact. He might be wondering how the DMOZ is being an issue for netters which shouldn't be actually. ;)

LOL. You will be surprised to know how bad the situation is. Please send an email or even better try to call them. The answer will be :" what the fu*k is ODP, DMOZ? Who the hell cares about that sh*t." I think there is 1-2 staff members left to deal with the servers on part time bases. The rest of ODP are some desperate individuals that are trying to make couple of bucks from selling the links or adding their own shopping, pharmacy, adult, gambling links to survive.

Well AOL is trying to save money and reinvent itself, maybe it would save them money to shut it down or better yet turn it into a revenue stream, first order of business, out with the volunteers!

The reason Google has nothing to do with Dmoz anymore is because the crooks running the Dmoz show were giving friends and personal sites a boost in the directory. Everyone knows this. A simple Google search will tell you what kind of wieners these guys are.

This place is policed like some kind of damn government office. "Read rules or be banned!", "How dare you ask a question that has been asked before!" You guys are total losers to say the least. Maybe you should all go to the academy and become police officers? You sure seem like the type. Kid picked on in school, craves power ... uses internetz to be demanding.

    Grow up.

How do you know that is the reason that Google stopped using it? It is not the reason that Google gave for dropping it.

I love it when misinformed people shout "facts" that are not even close to the truth......

The fact is that Google use to use a copy of the DMOZ database as THEIR directory. Given that they pinged everyone else for duplicate content, they punished almost everyone, they could not continue using DMOZ data as their own personal database.....hence they ceased to do so. Thats the reason and its as simple as that :) They officially stated that they no longer needed the DMOZ Data, nothing else.

Google have never made any comment against DMOZ, they have never made any accusations of improper things happening, so how about you give us a link to the "facts that everyone knows, Einstien"? I'm betting you cant because all you are doing is repeating what some other people have said and claiming that everyone knows the facts, when you have clearly shown that you actually know nothing :)

If Google thought it was as bad as you say, they would de-index it or penalise it heavily, neither of which has been done :)
